when i bought my disco it had a slight smoking problem (ten a day lol) i got that 1 in before you did but towards the end ie this week more like 300 a day no amount of nicotine patches would help .
so friday , decided maybe the valve stem seals so off came the head and all the hassle that goes with it did the valve stem seals as they had gone thought while im there do the pistons ie check the piston rings trying to put it back in and snapped the oil scraper (typical ) so ended up buying 4 sets of piston rings changed the lot ,thought great put the car back together as was hoping to go out bank holiday monday but noooooo , started it up and one of the big end shells had slipped and started to knock , couldnt do nothing as it was saturday night and nowhere open till tuesday .tuesday couldnt come round soon enough for me .at the shop for just gone 9am car was up and running by 12 noon horror it still bloody smoked remember reading somewhere someone else had this problem and it was the pump so found a really nice guy who owns a diesel repair company called key diesels at burton on trent bout 15 miles away from me , the only catch to this was i had to take the pump off , so out came the distruction manuel and off i went ,i thought whilst i had the pump off perfect time to do the timing belt couldnt believe it cam belt on the 300 tdi is such a easy job i dont know how garages can charge that much .not being funny but my wife could of changed it and she dont know the difference from a hammer to a spanner , so wednesday morning got my m8 to pick me up and we went over to burton to drop the pump off cost me 160.00 all in to have the pump inspected inside ,replace the springs put on the test bed and have it set correctly and then tweaked a little bit further to get more performance .i also got a new lift pump included in this price .got back home fitted the lift pump and the fuel pump but ran out of time so finished it all off today .so on went the cam belt and cover etc and it cracked straight up thought finally done it but nooooo after all this work this week it was the turbo cause the full rebuild of the engine increased the oil pressure which finally killed the turbo out right . oil coming out the exhaust so managed to buy a second hand one which comes tomorrow ,so finally the car will be up and running tomorrow touch wood.
thought i would share this with you as i was going to come over to the doc event sunday but now cant afford it , but at least now i can give advice on engines as i know my insides and out personally .all the best and thanks
