Icelandic suspension lifts .

hi all .

 I was just going through some of the first defender posts this morning and came across a 110 with huge tires and a big lift posted by Richard .

 i have to say that this looks really good .

 but was shocked to hear on devon 4x4 that it would cost you 30k :shock:  :shock:

would you not get the same look for 5k if you just raised the suspension by about 10 inches and added 40 inches of thread ? and of across youd have to change the UJ,s and small bits like that .
sure Hilux drivers do that and dont they have crap mechanics compared to the green oval ?

will someone please inlighten me as to what is wrong with this dream  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(

wouldnt a body lift be required too?

there was an article in lro last year about the icelandic giants..

they look the biz and would be quite cool to park on a metered zone and see if they can clamp it!

It's no small job... you need to take into account at least the following :

Suspension Linkages
Springs and Dampers
Steering Linkages
Drivetrain Uprating
Drivetrain Gearing
New wheels and Tyres (There goes £2K straight away)
Bodywork mods
Brake lines, Bumpstops, and all that malarchy

Then, if you go to a body lift too....

Body mounts, steering column, pedals, gear linkages, fuel lines, etc. etc. etc.

"Just sticking 10 inches in the suspension" is not as simple as you first might imagine.  :shock:

A couple of points here...

1) There are a lot more off-the-shelf kits for doing this sort of thing to a HiLux, so they are cheaper.
2) Most Land Rover owners dream of the sort of strength and reliability you generally get from a Toyota    

If you are determined to do it... it can be done, as can be seen from the Icelandic piccies... but this is no quick job.

if the wheel arch extensions are getting in the way of your articulation your suspension is pathetic anyhow.  The extensions are there to provide a couple of things, one is to make it look pretty, the others are to stop it throwing muck up the doors and to make it road legal

thanks Daz ..just that i saw on a couple of videos with the permanant wheel arches on articulation the wheel is jammed up againist the arch and cant goo forward  :oops:  :oops:
