World Beater; Armstrong Does It!
« on: July 25, 2004, 18:52:04 »
1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 & now 2004 :D
Lance Armstrong, the American professional cyclist riding for the US Postal team has won the Tour de France this afternoon.
He has made it an astounding 6 victories in a row.
Only 4 riders have previously won 5 of these gruelling races
Jaques Anquetil
Eddy Mercxx
Bernard Hinault
Miguel Indurain

Now Armstrong will become a living legend :D

Only 8years ago, he was struck down with Testicular Cancer which also spread into his Lungs & Brain & was given (after tests & surgery) only a 20% chance of survival at one point.
His then team (Cofidis)  gave up on him & walked away.

Only 3 of his sponsors stuck with him; Nike, Oakley & Giro.
When the cost of his medical bills was raised, Oakley simply told their insurance companies to go ahead & pay (or they'd remove all their business) from them. Nice to see Coporate Business doing the right thing :D
He's a nice guy as well, I rode with him in 1995, when he was the World Champion & Motorola (his then team) was over for the Leeds Classic.
But the speed those guys go, even on an 'off-day
