How would using V Power Diesel (SHELL), or a competitors equivalent effect my emissions?

I ask as during its last MOT, it failed slightly!

put half a gallon of petrol in a full tank of diesel, that cleans the emmisions up.

never had to do it my self, but the gypsies do it apparently.

It probably wont help you, as these new "cleaner" fuels work gradually and are more preventative than cure.

You have one of 2 options, the first is an additive like redex, 20l of fuel and about 4x the reccomended amount of redex followed by a hundred miles of thrashing will clean it out nicely, the other thing to use is acetone, 100% pure and itll clean it out a treat, you only need about 120ml per tank and it will (in theory) increase the fuel economy by upto 15%, more than that ammount acts as a really good cleaner and it helps the emissions as it makes the diesel burn cleaner :)

Oh BUM, I put 1 tub of REDEX in a full tank and thrashed it a bit on the German Autobahn,   I wish I had put some more in now!

Perfectly safe, there are various papers out on the net about using acetone in diesel to increase fuel economy, its disputed by fuel companies (supprise supprise) but is proben to work in some engines. The best side effect though is cleaner burn so less emissions and it cleans out the engine too :)

I've put it through my TD5 and various other modern and not so modern cars to see the effects, it works in petrols too.

Just keep it off your paintwork, because 100% pure acetone is a great paint stripper. You can get it from any chemical suppliers, some chemists and anywhere related to boats.

I thought there were some issues with acetone capable of dissolving certain types of rubber ?  There was a long email exchange on one of the overland lists a while ago.

Its not going to be a problem, all fuel systems are made of materials resistant to chemical attacks, and the quantity used is so small it would take hundreds of years to damage it even if it could.

Using 120ml to 75 litres pure acetone in my Jeep TD and getting 500 miles to a tank instead of 450. Just tip it in on the forecourt before you fill up with jungle juice. Tried nail varnish remover too, but it's full of other stuff too, and hardly affected the mileage.

Yes but its full of other bits and bobs, for this to work you need 100% pure acetone otherwise you might do more harm than good.

Add it however you like, i did get some strange looks when using a large syringe to "inject" mu fuel tank @ petrol stations!!

It's all in American units, so use http://www.onlineconversion.com to work it out for yourself based on how big your fuel tank is.
I use a 250ml bottle, and bung half into the tank before I fill up.
