Series 3 Speedo Cable
« on: June 12, 2006, 20:43:24 »
Why oh why can't I get a speedo cable that works? I've tried four now - all with correct part number but all Britpart bits. The end that goes into the drive pinion at the gearbox end doesn't seem right on any of them - ranging from almost round to slightly flattened, but none with a nice square end that I seem to remember they had in the good old days. And none of them work. The pinion is turning ok so it's not the drive at fault, and the speedo works if I turn the cable from the gearbox end. Put it all together and....Nothing, not even a flicker! Any ideas out there?? Please...!!    :(   Anyone got a genuine Land Rover part??  Or know where I can get one??

Probably not much help but i changed the speedo cable on a friends series landy last weekend for its MOT. The end of the cable was nice and square, wasn't a Britpart one though.

If you want the part number I'll give him a ring and see if he still has the packet with the part number on.

Thanks to both respondents.  The correct part number for my vehicle is PRC2065.  I can't find a genuine LR parts dealer that wants to sell me one.  I visited my local LR franchise dealer's Parts Dept last weekend.....I think they are still rolling round the floor laughing - "Have we got a WHAT for a 1981 WHAT?!!"

Seriously, if anyone can give me the contact details for somewhere that might stock a genuine article I'd much appreciate it.  All the so-called supporters of older vehicles just seem to have the Britpart thingy that doesn't work.

Cheers,  Robin

Sorry cant help you on the genuine stockist other than the main dealer.

The one i used was branded Allmakes 4x4. Got it from land ranger services in shotton Flintshire but the have a branch in the west midlands, not sure how close it is to you. There website has a list of locations http://www.landranger.co.uk/

It's unusual that the local dealer couldn't help, our local main dealer is currently in the middle of replacing a chassis on a nice Series 2a. Must be costing the owner a bob or too
