Had a really bad misfire on my SU carbed 3.5 90.
No power - just like I'd been in deep water.
But it was all the time, at tickover & at speed - 60mph max.
The HT lead from the coil to distributor had a spark going from the HT lead at the coil tower to each of the low tension terminals.
When I pulled back the rubber boot I got sparks about 1" long.
It looked really pretty in the dark.
Checked the plugs, they looked ok.
Rotor arm & cap looked ok.
In the dark the only sparks were at the coil connections.
Tried a different coil.
Still sparks.
 Figured it had to be the silicon leads. Horrible black things with no name on them.
So went to see the nice people at Magnecor.
Bought a set of 8.0 leads.
Problem solved.
The blue leads are really well made & look great on the engine - till I cover them in mud.
Glad it wasn't that amplifier I heard you talk about.
Hope this might help someone else who has a misfire like mine. It started doing it when it was damp. Then the other day when it was really hot it was doing it all the time. Thought I might have wrecked the engine it was so bad.
V8's purring now just like they should do. :D :D :D :D
I've read a lot of good advice on the forum. Thanks guys.
Jim.
