Have you ever taken your 4x4 off road?
« on: June 23, 2006, 09:59:03 »
The news article quoted today says that only 5% of 4x4s were used off road.  I'd like to do another poll to see how accurate this statistic actually is.

So, please participate in this scientific survey.....

A caravan is often pitched on a grass site and as roads are seldom made of grass that technically becomes off road, the same could be said for a building site

My TD5 is mainly used for towing the caravan... so it spends quite a bit off it's time off road in farmer fields etc etc...

The bobtail also goes off road now and again... but it's mainly been used for going out green laning which are on unsurfaced roads.

The Old Bill (my 2A) has been off the road many times in its 'life' (courtesy of previous farmer owners and when it was in the Police Force). :D  Although it's also been off the road in another fashion for the past year.

I had to say no because I've never taken it off road. Off tarmac plenty of times but never to a pay and play site.

it all depends on your views as asphalt on road mud off road, do you have to go to a pay and play mud bashing to say you've been off road? i've not done a pay and play but put the zuk in places road cars/school run 4x4's wouldn't go so is that still on road?  :?

I was being a bit pedantic, but green lanes are technicaly roads. driving off the green lane is off roading and illegal. Where as a pay and play or other private land with the owners permission is off road and legal.

I suspect the spirit of the question is have you taken your 4x4 surfaced roads?

Mine does more "off road" than greenlanes etc. as most of my stuff is on private land and involves animal control and high calibre weapons.

It also gets used to ferry the family around, go shopping, and do the dreaded B&Q run.

i'd class greenlaning as off roading as any standard road car wouldn't be able to drive a lot of lanes that are about so surely if only a 4x4 can get down that certain lane then your going offroad or is that just my views?

Bit of a pointless poll for an offroading forum really- might be more revealing on a general  motoring forum?

agreed is a bit wasted on a forum called Mud Club, i guess there aiming it more at these people who go out and by a BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne etc then just use them for school/shopping runs always puzzles me why people spend 50k+ on a 4x4 vehicle for the only time it gets mucky is when the gritters have been out.

No offence to anyone on here intended if you own a top market 4x4 and use it properly these are just my views and opinions

I have a remote control lamp for the roof which is "sucker" mounted.  I tend to use a hand lamp most of the time (Lightforce 140 and 170).

Most of the time I use my Disco to get me close, and then walk the rest of the way.

Never greenlaned.....just pay'n'play events.
My 90 very rarely gets used during the week cos i live where i work. When i do venture to the shops etc "depending which driveway i use" i have to off road in order to get to the public roads.

For the more pedantic amongst us, I'm using this in the general public sense of "off road", meaning "off tarmac".
