er....this might sound odd, but it was the Pastoral (symphony no 6) by Beethoven......followed closely by lots of Rimsky Korsakov....and after that - mostly folk music.

I think the first "pop" album I bought was "complete madness" ;-)

Nothing odd about Beethoven or Rimsky Korsakov.. listened Grieg (Peer Gynt), Wagner, Sibelius, Holst, Tchaikovsky and so many others long before I had a real 'chart'  single.... ( culture.. as supplied by daddy.. )

And still do...

Along with Motorhead, Maiden, Led Zep etc

The first music that struck me (after emerging from the family taste of The Beatles) was Electro and Breakdance.
My first record was Newcleus - Jam On It on 12"
It must have been about 1981
Its still a great record and gets a listen every know and then

I think the first 'proper' single I bought was 'Queen Of Hearts', or possibly 'Crawlin From The Wreckage'.
Both by Dave Edmunds
Richard A Thackeray
Defender 110Td5 'Heritage Gone, but not forgotten
Jaguar XKR; X88 JLT, also 'gone, but not forgotten'

Yorkshire Born & Bred, and proud of it.

I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.
