I went to see David to pick up my steering guard wile we were holidaying in Devon. He was looking at doing a snorkel then and showed me a prototype. it was a la Mantec coming out the end of the wing unlike the Safari. Is it the same on the one you've got Dyf? Do you have t take the wing off to fit it?

yeh its the one that looks kinda like the mantec one

its stainless steel pipe with a swivel intake

there are instructions that are coming with it, so i presume you either have to take the wing off, or the inner wing off (what do i know!) but either way something has to be shifted to pipe it to the air filter.

when it arrives i shall get the old camera out then u can see

methinks it will go quite well with a black discovery actually! :twisted:

I've know carriers to deliver right into the early evening. If they can see it is a private address, they may even choose to leave it later to stand a better chance of someone being in.

Hopefully they don't use the same courier that Scorpion use.
They have a depot 2 miles from my house and anything for me goes through their Newark depot.
Crazy.

David would need a courier that knows where he lives. It's a job and a half finding him. I only went from Bowyers to Southdown and got lost :) even with a Garmin GPS.

bit of an update

the courier used an agency driver or something, and the driver didnt know the area, so he/she didnt find our business park.. (the only one in the village!, with a big sign outside the building too!)

so they took it back to the depot.. in Bury

so after work we went to bury to get the package (which took bout 40 mins + after finding the place)

opened it up and everything seems to be in there, although the drawing on how to cut the hole in the wing is hand drawn!

hmm

anyone mounted a tank guard on their disco and if so how hard/easy is it?

ive already got a towbar on the car

Dyf mate,

I've a Scorpion tank guard on, and when it was fitted I still had a standard tow bar fitted. The tank guard needed a little chink taken off it to fit.

You may be OK, but as with all LR add on's be prepared for a little adjusting here and there

im taking the tow bar off cos ive bought the tow pack with the guard

and the recovery point

all the bits are laid out on the drive

now to negotiate around rusty bolts n nuts!

will get camera out shortly to display my spending, however it needs more than one person to fit it (one to hold it in place and the other to bolt it and drill it

yes i have to drill it too!

ooh dont get me wrong im quite excited!

managed to remove the bolts that attach the stabiliser arms onto the drop plate

but trying to budge the bolts that attach the arms onto the chassis

no can do

ive dropped a bit of 3 in 1 on it and let it soak in

i wouldnt mind speaking to someone who has had one fitted to see how much of a ball ache it is to put on

if its not too difficult i might tackle it tomorrow

ideal for holding up things whilst daddy is there too

baby walker can hold some weight!

managed to get oil on his hat

he was inspecting under the back bumper and rubbed his head against it

seriously though his main aim will be to pass his test

ive met quite a few teenagers here and all aren't bothered about passing their test

weird

i passed within 7weeks after my 17th birthday

There was a guy at Billing fitting one of these guards to his disco on the Sunday afternoon. It seemed the only special tool he needed was a *very* big hammer! But he had it fitted by the time we left.

fair enough

means removing the tow bar which is by no mean feat as the bolts are happy where they are and dont feel like being unbolted from the car! :roll:

anyway

i need to drill the chassis to mount it fully but dont know where though yet

ive asked on uk lro for any tips on those peeps who've mounted them.

same thing goes for you lot who've got one

I'll reply on here as it's easier Dyf.

The bumper will have to come off to get to the towbar bolts as they sit under the bumper. WD40 everything as soon as you can and let it sit for a while when it does its work.
I ended up snapping the bolts that go into a captive nut in my bumper but I was fitting a new recovery bumper so wasn't too worried.

I'd guess and say that the Southdown can bolt to the bolts that hold the tank straps on the front of the tank. I can't be sure but that's how the Scorpion tank guard mounts.

The tank strap bolts have the nut on the top. I got longer bolts and reversed them so that the bolt head was on top. Then put the nut on and tightened it up. Leaving a longer thread where the guard could be mounted with another nut.
This meant I didn't have to take the weight of the tank as the tank straps were undone.
In fact the tank didn't ever move as it was held by three bolts all the time.

If the southdown doesn't bolt there.
Forget it all :(
