Air Con pump
« on: June 29, 2006, 23:08:59 »
Hello, me again

When I switch on the air con, the revs drop as expected and the air con works.

But ... something switches on and off, frequently, at irregular intervals which causes the engine revs to rise and fall. I'm assuming that's not right!? It is also 'kin annoying when driving in slow traffic, as it makes me look like a learner driver doing kangeroo jumps

Also, there is a distinct click (relay?) everytime it happens.

Any one with suggestions on where to start looking?

Is it just aircon, or full on climate control? If the latter I would guess its a thermostat turning the a/c on & off to maintain the set cabin temp.

I stand ready to be corrected

No, just (single) air con.

Gords

I would be tempted to pay a expert to look at the Air con it may be something simple like not enough gas

It was re-gassed last year, so unless it's leaking...

I'm trying not to pay an expert for a few hours to find some dodgy wiring or relay   If it turns out to be the pump or similar, then I'll be happy to pay someone to fix it!

usually when its regassed thay tend to put a dye in it so if yourv'e got a leak you may well have a coloured spot area

Don't know about land rovers but on some cars have a system to automatically compensate for the demand placed on the engine when the A/C is switched on, by increasing the engine revs slightly.

If discoveries have this system then that could be what's at fault?
Must be a disco expert here that knows if they have such a system fitted...
