I've seen 70+ out of my ex mil 109", but it doesnt like hills as he's a heavy old beast!!

Mine's got a Turner Engineering Stage 1 Head which gave me a great performance increase, but that is over a knackered head so not sure how much better than 'standard' it is.

Speed speed speed..... h'mmm

Well I can tell you a nearly sh@t my pants when Percy had the Jag lump in but the speed con not be recorded here for legal reasons

Suffice to say the wrestling match with the steering is an experience I will never forget... though being auto does help dedicate more time to the steering.

Still got to finish off the tamer V8 conversion....

The 101 usually cruises at about 55mph;  at 60mph it gets a bit noisy;  65mph is attainable but not that pleasant, plus you can see the fuel gauge dropping like a stone.

Ideally you need a bit of a downhill to get you to 60mph, but once you're there, you can hold it!

My first landy which was a diesel LWB S3 with Od did 70mph easily. My dad was following me home when I picked it up and he couldn't believe. it. As soon as you put soem weight inside or stuck a half full 1tonne caravan on the back (so caravan weighing about 800kg) it didnt like that. 40mph was the best it did. Only towed with it once for a 5 mile journey. sold it soon after I found out whole of drive chain was worn and chassis was a patch work quilt!!!

2nd landy did 60-65 on its own. petrol with OD. again was useless at towing the caravan so never bothered to tow with it.

My dad however had a S3 Diesel with no OD and that did 50-55 on its own or with a fully laden 1200kg caravan on the back. that went to sout of France 3 times towing the caravan! Before my Dad owned it the farmer used it for towing horse trailers.

I want a S3 again  They are so much more fun to drive than my auto disco is.

My old series 3 diesel did 65mph with overdrive (sounded like a Fokerwolf diving from 3000 feet).Pete

Just after I rebuilt the engine i managed to get my 2.5n/a diesel 2A up to 88mph on the GPS (with a run up and a slight hill on my side!).
I didnt like it very much though. Now with an overdrive on it will cruise happily at 65-70 though it doesnt get the chance for much cruising since the car is easier and more comfy.

my one ton (900x16 tyres with IIB ratio gearbox) will cruise at 45 mph, but I have had 62mph out of it. Thats with a 2.6 petrol.

don't forget you had to tow a spare fuel bowser to acheive 62mph

my S11A one ton cruises nicely at 50mph but would need a tailwind to beat the 60 mark

the S1 86" is about the same as the one ton

and my S11A LWB basic 2.6 will hapilly go 70 but currently will only acheive the speed at which I can push it  :?

I've got a Series 2a but have never attempted to see how fast it will go. I prefer to get there under my own power rather than the power of an RAC wagon
