non return valve ?
« on: July 02, 2006, 21:03:58 »
Ok folks I need a solution.

I have disconected the engine breather pipe from the filter. Fitted a blanking plate over the hole. This left me with a problem. If i get into water that is upto bonnet level I am going to get an engine full of water

I have run an extension pipe up the outside of the snorkal for the time being but it looks ugly and the paintwork is getting a bit oily.

What I want is some form of none return valve that will let low pressure air out but close if it encounters water trying to enter. I doubt the breather will generate enough pressure to keep the water out.

Oh yeah, I do know it is illegal to vent the engine gasses to atmoshere, it is only temp. honest govner.

I would hazard a guess that if you run them, then you're responsible and accountable. Oh yes, ignorance of the law generally doesn't work

In Dave Vizards book 'tuning the A sereis engine' he describes a method of connecting the engine breather into the exhaust and using Bernouli's effect to create the positive crankcase ventilation that protects the oil seals.  This also requires a non-return valve to prevent backfiring.
