I was feeling lazy so got a clutch fitting centre to do the clutch on my Sportrak. Bill ended up at £300 and after 50 miles tops a knackered gearbox.
I'm not sure what other 4x4's are like in the gearbox dept, I've only sat in a Landie once never climbed under one with a spanner but a bit of manual reading reveals the Daihatsu has separate lubrication systems for gearbox and transfer box. If you pull out the front prop the gearbox drains, if you pull out the rear prop the transfer box drains.
When I pulled the duff gearbox out the transfer box didnt leak anything but the gearbox did.
What I suspect has happened at the clutch centre is they pulled out the props, cursed and swore when oil went everywhere and refilled just the gearbox leaving the transfer box to disintegrate.
The hard part is proving it to the point where I get some redress.
As its an old car I would only want the cost of my scrapyard gearbox back and put the wasted Sunday afternoon down to experience.
What are my chances ?

Ooops, sorry. I keep forgetting about the litigation bit.
