north bound A1 this morning

Going in to work this morning saw 2 catapillar monsters on the back of loaders heading north.
Think they where probably bound for stobswood open cast mine in northumberland as had big coal mining company stickers on the sides

Couldnt get any pics as was driving at the time but found these on cat's web sight

Although i work for an ag engineers, we do alot of the A/C work for u.k coal, how's this for an engine transplant, think your need something a bit more than you sealey folding hoist for this one :lol:

These guy's use army style 8 legger scammals as fuel and oiling trucks, the one next to my van is only a 777 the 789's on site use a V14 quad turbo in them, i also do did a couple of the face shovels the RH200 on site uses a PAIR of V12's and parked next to it i could still see the top's of the tracks over the roof of my van, and it'll fill one of the above dump trucks in about 45 sec's

But if you want heavy liftting you want one of these, this one with non-powered trailer -  which mates direct to the back as all the bogie unit's can turn and steer - Carries 350 ton another on site tips the scales at 400 ton and a new one on order has 550 ton capacity

The CAT 797's take some abuse too. I was in Alberta, Canada earlier this year and a local (40-45 sq miles in size) quarry had a load of them running on 10 min cycles. 10 mins from loading to tipping and return etc with an emphasis on 15000 tonnes per shift per vehicle (for bonus $$). At around 300 tonnes per load the O&K RH400 excav only needed 4 draws to fill it. The sight of 20 of these 797's racing home at the shift end  :shock:  the dust cloud blew for miles and it felt like an earthquake too! As for specs, if a shock absorber fell on your landy, you wouldn't have to worry about ground clearance anymore and with just short of 7000 litre fuel tanks, well lets just say if they bought their fuel at Tesco's they could supply enough free computers to do the whole country's schools!

There's a website somewhere that shows lots of pictures of these things having driven into bridges, lakes, other mining equipment etc.  Whilst hoping nobody's been injured, the pics are impressive.  I can't find it offhand, but whilst looking I found this which is also entertaining to those of us with a bizarre fascination for mangled plant machinery.
