Hi/low jumping
« on: July 11, 2006, 20:32:41 »
I am looking at a 90 and it jumped out of high .
The seller assured me it was due to being used in low and the area being clogged with mud !!
I have said He will have to sign the reciept to say if it is a problem he will have to give me a couple of hundred back.
Is this normal or should I factor this into buying price ?
The rest of the vehicle is ok and does have a fair few extras.
I have offered £1400 and its an E reg with a V8, rocksliders, winch bumper, steering guard etc

Dont accept the offer of a refund later, factor it in to the purchase price or run away. As an excuse, being clogged with mud stinks :(

it will prob be clogged with mud as it sits where the lever operates & if it hasnt been used in low for a while then put in it sometimes wont go back

Get underneath put you hand up by the linkage and have a feel,

I brought one the same wot the seller didn't know was the pivot pin had worn out, thus the linkake wasent pushing the lever all the way over got a couple of a hundred off took it round the corner got underneath and engaged the lever and drove it home 150 miles all okay

Unless it's a dealer then a written offer of some money back aint worth a jot.

He could tell you to balls and you would end up in the small claims court. Get a discount or decide if you want it regardless, but forget about the signature.

not knowing much about landrovers      id say it could be mud, infact it would be more than likely mud than anythin else i could think of simply fir the fact that they get stuck in high & wont go into low with mud so why not the other way round if its been used in low for ages  :?:

ok, fair enough, everyones own opinion and all that. :)
but why would have been used in low for a long time? what do we call a long time?

also i was thinking (steady now) if it was only mud why didnt he clean it himself and not have the hassle of explaining/convincing the potential buyer?

The one I am looking at has a 5 speed LT77
I have a 4 speed auto box spare
will the transfer box fit or will I need to source a replacement.
I think I will aim to knock a couple of hundred off.
I kind of know the chap and know he used it mainly for trials so used it in low most of the time.
The rest of the truck is pretty good for an E reg.
He has included the original hard top including 2 sets of side panels, 1 with windows 1 without, and a set of spare wheels.
It has a H/D close mount winch bumper, rock sliders, steering guard, diff guards, CB, decent seats with decent covers, dixon bate tow bar, disco steels with amazon tyres ( not too bothered as have decent tyres spare) and lots of new parts fitted.
It had new brake lines, servo and rebuilt callipers for the MOT at the end of March.
He has also included a full bronchurch roof rack with ladder
The swivals are good and the diff casings show no signs of leaks.
Other than jumping out of high it drove very well and is quick.
It does need attention to the drivers lock and a small patch under the X member where the original mud flaps attatched.
I figure if I can get it for £12/1300 then I should be ok.
I know changing the transfer box is a pain but as it is a second car I dont mind getting that done and I should be able to trade my spare box for the job !
I have posed the same quiston on several other forums and The general consensus is that it is mud.
I will get underneath and maybe take centre seat out to check.
It does have a couple of small dents but the doors are solid

The 2.5 NAD I looked at is mechanically good although it does have a bit of slop in the front prop ( UJs already done) and the drivers door is tatty.
It also requires a small patch on the rear of the chassis where the tow bar would attach. The seats are also tatty.
It has 235 M/T tyes on H/D rims.
That owner has agreed to include a spare door, spare engine (cracked head) and various other spares. It also has 4 months TAX.
They both have 10 months MOT.

Well I've got the V8 !
Welded X member today and made side exit exhaust. Decided to take boxes out having heard mates one this afternoon.
Stripped most trim and rubbed down ready for paint tomorrow.
might even fit +2" lift if I have time. I will be fitting cranked arms anyhow and a set of -2" towers.
