Coloured stripes on front axle?
« on: July 23, 2006, 09:55:46 »
What do the coloured stripes on the front axle mean. The axles also have a part number stamped on them so what more could the stipres mean other than easy identification at a distance?

I've run a 3 blue in place of a 1 red + 1 green with no problems, so I don't think the make a huge difference, but would it ever matter if the stripes are painted over never to be seen again?

Not sure. Could be a date marking system. Mention it on LRO.com as there's a chap who worked for LR registered.
I have painted my axles :!:
According to all the manuals I have they all run the same ratios although the 90 axles I have fitted on the 90 do have different half shaft covers.
I plan to fit a pair a rangie axles I have to give discs on the back and smaller hubs so I can fit the centre caps to my new boost alloys 8)
I am hoping the 90 callipers fit the rangie axles on the fron or I may have to remake brake set up ! :?

These have always been a mystery to me to and a while ago i sold the engine and gearbox out of my old disco to a chap that used to work for an independent quality control company. he said that when they inspect a car they have to put a make on any faultly parts that they find. cant remember the color codes he used now but i think that it was red yellow green and blue.

red faulty unable to repair (replace part)
yellow faulty but repaired
green no fault
blue no component check required

as i say i think these are right but not 100%

All coil Land Rovers are 3.54 diffs, according to Muddy web.

If your allous don't fit the hubs you have, I suspect yo may have 200TDi Defenders parts, be careful as these are not suitable for alloys.  Go on, aslk me how I know

90 callipers and RRC callipers are basically the same casting, machines differently for single or dual circuit.  The V8 CSW had bigger callipers on RRC vented disks, if you get the chance :D
