MOT Failure
« on: July 24, 2006, 19:02:49 »
Took the 110 for it's MOT today. Failed on a wheel bearing which is easy to repair.
It also failed on "Exhaust emits an excessive level of smoke for a turbo engine" :?

I gave it a blast on the way back from billing and got a bit of smoke under heavy acceleration but not much. It has some RedX diesel injector cleaner (the green stuff) in is as well.

I'll change the fuel filter tomorrow, but can I do to stop it smoking?

It has never passed first time :(
Regards
Matthew

I had a similar problem, and used some Acetone in the tank....... 120ml per full tank, smoke has gone, and runs cleaner too!

I have also been told that removing the air filter for the test will reduce emmissions.

Thought that was just for carbed engines but I am told not, so maybe!

Hope it helps

I wish this project would just hurry up and finish!

But I don't think it will if I keep making simple mistakes

i accidently did this the other day to my astra. managed to put 8 quids worth of petrol in before noticing.
then topped the tank off with another 30 odd quid of diesel, plus whatever was already in there.
result? runs slightly better, less smoke, and pulls better up long hills.

Thanks everyone, have ordered a new fuel filter from paddocks with some other bits. The air filter is quite new already.

Will probably put a gallon of petrol in it and give it a good thrashing as recommended.

Can anyone recommend a good injector cleaner or are they all about the same. I'm currently using the RedX one.

Hopefully the parts will arrive and I can get it retested before MCBB3 otherwise i won't be able to make it. :(  :(  :(
