Used to fly fixed wing R/C aircraft many years ago. Crashed them too often though and it got too expensive!! I still have a couple of boats, but they haven't seen the light of day for some years. Like greenlaning, R/C models can be politically difficult because of the noise, can't they? It seems increasingly difficult to do anything these days without someone complaining about it  :(

So now I own a politically incorrect, fuel guzzling, oil dripping, noisy, expensive to run, road hogging Land Rover ....... and proud of it

Before I got into Helis, I was (and to a certain extent still am) into soaring.  I had a SAS Wild Thing that was made out of expanded polypropylene packaging.  What a machine.  Quite literally indestructable!

Because of my location, the perfect flying spot was the Hole of Horcum on the North Yorkshire Moors.  I was part of a formal club, with approval from the Parks Authority, with additional liability insurance (PA requirement), flying SILENT models.  But people still wanted to ban us.  Guess which group of people?

The Wandering Biped Society, maybe?? Hmm.

When I lived in Hertfordshire we used to go up the Ivinghoe Beacon where they flew slope soarers. Again, a perfect location with a nice curved hill face to channel the wind.

Never done slope soaring, but I did enjoy my 72" termal soarer when I needed a relaxing afternoon.

I suppose at the end of the day they are all big boys toys.
I did the power/glider/heli stuff with every August Bank Holiday taken up at the Nationals at Barkston Heath and Cranwell. I had a glider with 6 foot wing span. On each wing.
Still got a Cap 21 that never got built along with a couple of soar away sailplanes kits.

Amateur radio has taken up a lot of my time. Then I discovered Land Rovers and I've got no money spare for other hobbies. It all goes on the Disco.

Come visit New Zealand and see how stock car racing really works.  Faster racing with much harder hitting.  Hopefully you'll get to see some of it on UK television this year - Frankie Wainman Jnr and 3 or 4 others are back racing here again.

Well, where to start,i used to race RC offroad buggys until the club changed to touring cars & i didnt have the £400 + to change sides as it were,i then got bored & bought a nitro powered 1/10 scale off road buggy that i flew about with until i broke it then it was changed to tarmac set up & went even faster until an orange traffic cone killed it,bent the chassis & prop shafts in 2 & pulled the engine out the chassis, oops.whilst messing about with the small cars i was marshaling at different slroc events & car rallys, ive now changed side again & im now competing & spending even more money,i think the hill rally is next.i dnt think im doin 2 bad considerin im 19 next week.

Wow!  It's YEARS since I went to the races, but Frankie Wainman Jnr and Snr were both very prominant, and always very competitive.  They were 515 and 212 I believe.  There was Jane Bean (309?) too, there was some talent rising there.

Used to ride bikes a lot, even raced fora number of years.
Sadly old age & wrapping myself round trees too many times spoilt it for me.

Highlights;
Making it into the top 10 at a Mountain BikeRace at L I GH T W A T E R Valley (Ripon, North Yorkshire) out of a field of over 200. Unfortunately, over 5minutes behind the winner - but over 2hours ahead of some riders   I know, it's not the winning - it's the taking part......

Riding around the 1992 World Cyclo-Cross Championship course when it was at Roundhay Park with the reigning World Champion Thomas Frischnect in the morning before the start.
And later being with the newly crowned Junior World Champion Roger Hammond as he came up some mutual friends (of his & ours) to show them the rainbow Jersey & his Gold Medal

Riding with Motorola (the US professional team - precursor to US Postal) at the recce day for the 1994 Leeds Classic (a World Cup round) Chatting as we rode withthe big names like Phil Anderson, Sean Yates*, Brian Smith* & the future Tour de France (6times) winner Lance Armstrong.
Armstrong is a nice guy even though he's a Texan & was the World Champion at the time.
Boy those guys can motor!!!!!!!!, even on a 'day-off'
