Odd pricing and payment method
« on: July 25, 2006, 20:25:50 »
Went to MM4x4 today to collect order placed yesterday over phone.
I was told I could not pay by card over phone if I was collecting . Fair enough I thought.
I said "what is the total price please"" . Chap on phone says " "£300:26 please" I say " is that inc vat" he says "yes".

Drive up(140miles) as I was collecting a cage I won on ebay2 miles down the road.
I go into MM4x4 and say hello mr "" here.
"oh hello I will just sort your order"
Was told it would be ready on phone!!
"can I borrow your phone so my wife can pay for goods on card"
"sorry sir we cannot do that" said on phone yesterday that would be fine !!!
Lukily my father who came to help with cage had £300 on him

"That will be £352:80 please"
"I am sorry thats more than you quoted me on phone. "
"its plus vat sir"
"you advert says inc vat"
"Thats different."
" well I am not very happy about this"
blah
blah
blah
blah
Boss then says he will Knock £25 off to meet me half way.
Total bill £323.43
I added prices in magazine up when I got home

£331 in vat !!
Where they got prices from I dont know but at least they were wrong to their cost !

Its things like that which make me lose my rag with companies, if they print a price in a magazine, then its that price and it gets my goat when they stuff up and try to overcharge, or claim they quoted without vat or somthing similar.

It annoyed me that they messed me about re the credit card then to mess up the pricing really got my back up.
I know I was there anyway for the cage but its the principle.
I have bought 3 kits from them now so they have had a fair amount of business from me.
I even said this and they said sorry but still expected the money !
I know I made out of the deal but I will think twice before ringing them again !
Shame really.

Was the ADVERT price for Internet purchases only :?: . If not i'd be inclined to talk to the company director.

Safe option would be to deal with muddyweb at Devon4x4 in future

i,ve heard some stories about MM but speaking from personal experience i,ve never had any problem with them apart from a steering box which they sorted out no problem if a little slow

I tried to order parts from them once before, they were terrible and i ended up just asking for me money back.  They took payment off me electron card for a mountney wheel and boss, then phoned me to say they dont accept electron and wouldnt be able to complete the order (bearing in mind the bank have said they have already taken the money off the card).  So in the end he agreed to refund my card that they dont accept with the money he couldnt have taken cos they dont accept electron!!

I was basing price on individual prices on LROi advert and chap on phone said to check out web( offering33% discount) although the bits I was after were not on offer !
They said in shop prices were + vat !
I had agreed price on phone so should not have been told shop prices !
I wanted to pay day before on card at home but was told best to pay when I collected.
I said my wife would be at hame and could I call from shop and was told yes.
Then when I get there they said they could not take card payment over phone as I was in shop and then tried to add further VAT to quoted prive that allready had VAT on !!
Bit cheeky eh !
If I could have bettered deal I would have told them to get stuffed !
Shame as I have had sevaral full kits from them + other items totaling well over a GRAND so expected better.
The chaps in the shop even mention this and said thanks for this but still tried tap me up !
I made on deal as added prices up in magazine at £331 inc vat , They charged me £323 in the end so although a pain I made small profit.
I got 4 +3" blue springs. 4 +2" procomp shocks. 4 stainless cones. 2 turret rings and 4 H/D spring retainers.
+shock boots .
I am getting my brake lines from LLAMHA.
I rang a fair few places and this was best price.
I was gonna go for +2" springs but as I am adding cage, winches etc figured car may drop slightly so wanted a definate +2" after all mods.
Probably wrong way to go about it but seems best option at moment.
I would love OME stuff but cannot afford all the kit I need so had to compremise.
The bearmach blue springs seem to have a fairly good reputation.

I could have but I really fancy some longggggggg travel ones and he only has +5"s .
I am looking at making a 3 link set up later so thought I would fit the lines now and then its just a case of changing shocks and maybe arms later.
Also If I do change shocks as I have cones and infinate travel on lines I should be close to 3 link anyhow.

The arms I make are only 5% cranked and castored but they should work well based on how far some 3% ones I made for a customers vehicle move.
I put percent as I dont have degree on keyboard

I bought the cage from a chap on ebay. He lived about 2 miles down the road from MM4x4. Thats why I chose to collect from them at the same time as collecting the cage I had one on Ebay
