Range Rover Mileage
« on: July 27, 2006, 22:32:59 »
Hi Everyone
I was just wondering what sort of mileage peoples range rovers have done as im thinking of buying one with 170k on . Its a 3.9 v8 efi .
I've no idea of any service history yet but just wondered how good these engines are and assuming its had regular oil changes how long do they live for before they need a rebuild ?
Any pointers much appreciated   8)
I think i must be in touch with my femenine side as i can spend money like its going out of fashion :)

We've got approaching 180K on our 3.9

We had to do cylinder head gaskets 2 years ago... It's had a recon gearbox... recon transfer box.... looking like a new radiator soon.

Said that... love the beastie.

Check whether it has had any of these things.. watch the temp on the test drive for normal operation... and the usual climb underneath with a hammer!

Good luck

Its miles before beyond repair  lol

I had a quick crawl under it as the garage was closed when i  got there and at the mo it needs a new sill each side and a patch on each footwell
and the rear cross member could do with a clean up and repaint but other than that its not too bad for the money i think . which is an asking price of £1500 but im looking to pay more like £1000 - £1200 because of what it needs so far .

On a car of this age, Condition becomes way more important than miles/age, as a car can have 200k+ and be great, or 90k and dead.

My avitar was just a pic i had that was small enough to use at the time  :)

UPDATE : I had a chat with salesman over fone tonite and been offered RR for £1200 with full mot but been out and seen a better one , more money , better spec , a lot better body work and underneath looks good from what i saw quickly but and big BUT  no gas on it
Think i can live without gas for now , will have to be a w/end car .
So there's a possability i could be the owner of a RRC by sat eve depending on negociations

Enjoy your weekend all  \:D/

For the record, a good indicator of engine condition/care is the colour of the aluminum inside the engine.  For plenty of info trawl around the RPI engines website sometime.

As for LPG, I've just fitted a multi point system for £1250 plus a couple of my weekends.  It's sweet :D
