upgrade lights - 300tdi
« on: July 31, 2006, 08:18:14 »
I'm looking to upgrade lights and have looked at various past posts and some of the kit on other cars.

a couple of questions.

Has anyone any comments re Guardian Roof bars - link via ebay

without a snorkel to help hide the wiring - how and where are you bringing this into the disco. Any images would help.

Also looking at A frame and wondering if a defender A frame would fit in to disco bumber okay? :!:

The roof lightbars are okay, but you may find that the lights put a glare onto the windscreen. Some people it doesn't bother and others have fitted shields to the under side of the light to stop the glare.

I fitted my rooflights onto the roofrack and set them back so the beam doesn't effect the windscreen.

As for the Defender A-bar, I've got one fitted to the winch bumper on the Disco but I'm not sure you would have anough room for the feet to sit on top of the standard bumper.

Have you thought about one of these from Innovation 4x4?

Hi
budgie - thanks for the info - The Disco looks great.
Ideally I would like to get a roof rack - but they all seem a bit dear and I think there are better pieces of kit on my agenda first. what make is the roof rack ?

how have you wired the roof lights into the cab ( any pics)?

Looked at the innovation light bar - not sure if this would allow the width of the lights -

Had a look at a defender a bar - nothing really solid to mount this to on a standard bumper.

It's a Patriot Roofrack, & yes they are expensive.

The roof lights are two spots in the centre and two floods on the outside.
They are all wired in using 7-core trailer wire from a fusebox on top of the inner wing. (They are powered from the Aux battery that also does the winch!   )

Each pair of spots has a relay of it and I ran the switch wires in behind the dash to these switches:

The spots only come on with main beam but the floods can come on with the side lights so I can use them when wading at night without blinding the person in front!!

If you look at my latest photos of Camel (see below link)

http://community.webshots.com/album/552264562uKStVn

You will notice I have done the clear lens conversions, what you will not notice (as I've only just purchased them at Billing) is that I've converted all Standard Bulbs (with the exception of the Headlights, but they are uprated anyway) to LEDs from 4x4bits.com although this cost £150.00 including new flasher unit. I consider it money well spent as (if you left them on permanently, they would last four and a half years) I will never have to change a bulb again.

The Spots on the top are 100w Wipacs giving me Daylight when they go on and the only additional lights that will be added will be a couple of driving lights that will go on when I get my new Roo Bar made to spec shortly.

As far as the wires go, you can actually buy some made up Roof Light Bars that fit and hide the wires quite well. I cannot see the Guardian ones as the link isn't working, but I have Guardian rocksliders/treesliders and they are great.

Hope this helps........... :D

p.s. Why have you not got a Snorkel on your list of things to purchase, as it would be deemed more useful that extra lights????

I'd rather push a Land Rover....Than drive another 4x4!?!?

planning to install wiring for light bar and front spots.

looking at 4 lights on roof bar to be wired through 2 relays and in independant switches.
spots on bumper wired via relay to work via main beam.

What I'm not sure about is how best to run cables and keep this a tidy job without having masses of wires .  any best practice from those that have a similar set up .

Can I just run 1 main wire to power the relay and then take a feed from ther to the other 2.
