I know one of the guys who works there is a member on here but that company has got to be mentioned.

I have just contacted them for an insurance quote on the Range Rover only to be told that any named driver has to own a second vehicle.  Never before in my life have i come across such utter nonsense, they also say they only insure 4x4's for general weekend off road use (the guy on the phones words) and not for an everyday 4x4 that will be used off road and its modified.

I am totally disgusted with this kind of response from a company that is alledgedly 4x4 friendly.

I have to say that my experience with Greenlight is completely different.

We have vehicles insured with them, and the guys couldn't have been more helpful and freindly.

Can't comment much beyond that.

I am just miffed, i have asked a number of people now and they have never heard the rule they use (and apparently its policy) that the named drivers on the 4x4 policy needs to own their own vehicle???

May be drop him a PM and see if he can shed some light on the problem? Might be worth a try. Depends how urgent the insurance quote is I guess. His name is Barry Scott.

Sorry to hear you are not happy.  I am not in the office today but have spoken to them.  My brief understanding is that the quote was for a driver with a second car but to have a named driver who did not have their own car.

The problem we have is most of our insurers try to avoid named drivers without their own car as a number of people use this method to get cheap insurance, I myself could do with being added to my parents car insurance policy for emergency use but the cost is astronomical.

To justify adding the named driver we would need to prove they have their own car for everyday use and do not intend to have this car as their main vehicle, insuring it in someones name to get cheap insurance.

I also understand you were transferred to one of the partners who tried to explain but he got put off by the rudeness and bad language used, this we will not put up with.

Sorry we could not be of help to you.
Barry

Firstly Barry thankyou for explaining it in better detail, although there was no bad language used, unless they think twoddle is bad language.

Yes there is 2 cars we both use either one of them.  There is no set vehicle either one of us uses.

Hi,

I use RH Specialist Car Division 0870 111 8963 - I started using them for a classic American vehicle, but they've been excellent with both my 90 Hybrid and now with the Overfinch. They're brokers for Equity Red Star, who I was with through Adrian Flux, but RH are cheaper  :)

Rob, they are brilliant, if your over 30 that is!!  They wont insure "that type of vehicle" for anyone under 30.  That was the response i just got.

NFU all the way, although if the vehicle has had an engine change (I considered Miniman's old S3) they have to put it to the commite before giving you a price.

Personally I cant fault Barry Scott and Greenlight 8)  Mighty fine deal :D  - it is for the 2nd vehicle though, which is the weekend plaything.

Andythelandy yeah cos its the second vehicle, they wouldnt do it cos it was to be the main vehicle.

Just tried Sureterm as well and they wont touch it as they couldnt place it with an insurer because of the modification!

Have you tried Firebond? When I got insurance a month ago they were doing a price beater guarantee, and did wonders for the price for me on the Disco (with mods allowed if wanted)... but by the time they rang me I was already with Adrian Flux (although still a v. good price, and modifactions OK).

Most companies mentioned about either wouldn't insure someone under 25 (i.e. me!) on a Disco, or if they would they wouldn't allow *any* modifications (inc. things like HD bumpers, different wheels, etc).  There reasons were that it increased risk of theft..... yes, granted, but increased risk of theft is the same regards of whether I'm 24 or 26!!!! (even the salesperson on the phone couldn't understand why they wouldn't let me do 'cosmetic' mods, as they call it)

Still, shouldn't moan too much - its all a lot better than my 10 yr old Sportrak I had as a first car (aged 19 with 2 yrs experience) - £1400 3rd Party F&T!!

Good luck with the insurance hunting!!

Nat

Well, at least I'm pleased to hear there are some advantages to being the wrong side of 50 (and a grumpy old sod, allegedly....but that doesn't usually help get an insurance quote  :) )

I'm with Greenlight and have found them to be easy to deal with and very accomodating.
Especially given the modifications that Snorkly currently has. There's not much that's standard on him.

There are so many variables when it comes to insurance...age,sex, post code, star sign, inside leg measurement. There doesnt seem to be any easy way to get a good quote other than taking a whole day and ringing every man and his dog to get the quote that will suit you and your starsign. we've all been there. hmm
