200tdi without an intercooler

what would happen if i ran my 200tdi without an intercooler?
i got a problem with mounting the standard one, and until i can source a replacement, i want to plump the turbo straight onto the inlet manifold

i know basically what will happen, the air getting to the cylinders will be hotter and less dense, meaning less oxygen in there so possibly it will overfuel, but what other consequences might there be?
I'm not going to cover any distance at all, its not even going for an MOT til i got an intercooler, i just want the vehicle capable of moving under its own power

The world as we know it will come to end if you do this.....

 

Will be fine the short term....  and in the long term if you turned the pump down a bit - would just be low on power.

It will happily run without any intake or intercooler pipework, it will even run with the inlet manifold open to atmosphere (i.e. nothing connected up)

I've been running my 200Tdi without pipework just to move the motor about and it seems fine.  Take care to make sure nothing gets into the turbo inlet other than air though.

or nuffing goes into the inlet manifold  :shock:
its bad practice to move it around with no pipe work on, yes it is ok and no damage will be done, but ull be kicking yourself when it sucks a bag or something that is waddling about under the bonnet in, try putting your hand infront of the inlet and see just how much suction its got

i fired it up last night with the intercooler pipes on, or any exhaust. bloody hell was it loud, my neighbours must love me, i did it at 2230!
didnt quite realise what the time was

just to be sure it was ok, i whacked my K&N on the intake manifold, cos it was dark and i didnt know what was floating round my driveway

the turbo spooled up ok, sounded nice and mean.
not too much smoke either, considering the engine last ran about 6 months ago and before that had sat for 3 years. and wow did it start easy. i love it :D

what sort of K&N have you got?

I have a filter housing from a Peugeot 1.9 Td that i am thinking of using on mine.  The old Disco filter will go under the bonnet, but not on the cold side of the engine.  Picked the Pug one up out of a skip and it fits a treat ontop of the diesel pump where the air conditioning goes.  K&N do a filter to go in it but I also quite fancy a K&N cone inside the offside wing breathing through the wing vent.
