Does anyone know what These road lines are all about?
They are on the A11 going towards the A14 Newmarket.

Yes......

They are to test he durability of the paint.......

They counted the number of axles that crossed a set point in the road, the idea is that the paint is designed for the edges and the middle lines so if it lasts 6 months like its painted then it'll last 25 years in the middle of the road cause they take proportionately less ware there! if it breaks up or fades then its not used....

The test location used to be on the A1 near Huntingdon but a different contractor holds the contract now, thats the best place condidering weight of traffic and type mix.

God I'm boring!

looks like a "spend the rest of the money bob, or we'll get less for the budget next year" kind of test, to me ;)

They almost strike me as Chevrons when 2 lanes become 1 - I wonder if anyone else has been fooled into this?

They've been testing road paint on the A11 eastbound drag up Six Mile Bottom since the mid eighties.

I haven't been along there for a while (passports expired!!) but it looks like they have a lot more now. There used to be just a short section that has been there for decades.

There was something similar on the M6 but it was to keep drivers apart and stop tailgating

Yeah but the sign would say "KEEP 29 LINES APPART"....

There is a CATS EYE test there too..... they are Solar / Battery / Kinetic Energy Powered and look cool.... you can still see them once you've passed them.... they are RED from behind them.... The kinetic ones are quite technical..... they rely on people crossing lanes and hiting them... the movement lights them up for ages...
