I have changed over to Bio diesel now and have been for the last 2 Months. I get alot better MPG its more powerfull and runs alot quieter. Its cheeper and I am a member of the club they run so if there is a Fuel shortage I am one of a group who is guaranteed Fuel.

If ya dont think its worth it I am living proof.

Dont fill a tank full and think it will just give you instant MPG it dont work like that. It cleans ya system out first. Then ya need to change ya fuel filter after a month and see what muck its cought. Works guys and girls and at 88p a liter I am keeping on the stuff.....

Are you putting in your own mixture into the tank or not Miniman?  The weather has a huge effect on biodiesel as you are most likely aware, in the winter you can't run with as much veg oil in the tank as you can in the summer heat.

Only problem i can see is the location of the garage to fill up.

So how come this aint more known and widespread as it is all positive effects and is there not any way you can get a discount on road tax??

Yes Miniman, I did change my username.  Anyway, you can make a greater saving by using your own veg and diesel mixture in the tank.  Infact you could get the veg oil for free from chippys and such, as it's used and apparantly used veg oil is better than unused veg oil for a diesel engine.  So all you would have to pay on the veg oil is tax!  For winter I think it's recommended to run 25% Veg and 75% Diesel, but in summer you can run up to even 75% Veg and 25% Diesel.  A large part in this depends on the weather, as the colder it is the more gloopy the veg oil is and it will block the fuel lines in cold temperatures if there is too much veg in comparison to diesel for the weather.

Because the government wants to keep it quiet as they can't tax it like they can tax normal diesel and petrol!

Whilst this is great in concept, you are missing an awful lot of info, you cannot use WVO (waste oil) straight in your engine, it needs straining through many filers from course right down to 10 micron (or similar), this also means heating and storing the oil, then if you have any sense you will need to process it into proper bio-diesel and remove the acids and other nasties, yes, strained WVO can be used but i wouldnt!

Back to the origional topic, it seems great, and 88p is certainly good but its bleeding miles away. I'd be interested in one of their 1000 litre drums though but then the problem is needing a pump to fill from and somewhere to put the stuff too!!

Oh, okay.  I just know of a few people who have run their 2.25 Diesels on it like this without any problems apart from a fuel blockage in the pump once when they got the mixture accidently wrong and it was a very very cold day.

Hmm.  I do know that differant fuel pumps will have differant tolereances to veg oil quantities/thickness.  Some pumps don't like the stuff at all while others are fine with it.

Yes the who process of making your own Bio fuel is a pain in the butt. Its not just one filter to do it properly its 4 and a heater and a tank and a pump to force it throught the first filter then when you have it all set up the Goverment need to come round to your house or garage to check it all out. Then every month you need to tell them how much you use and pay them the tax per litre you use......

They are dumb...... OH YES SIR I ONLY USED 50L THIS MONTH......HONEST......LMAO

I have no idea where all your local BioDiesel stations are but if you look about there all over I know there is one in liverpool one in preston but as for you lads you will have to look at The Tinternet and find your local place. If you motor has rubber fuel lines they MUST be changed or the chemicals eat away at it......

You can also bring ya own barrel and he will fill it up for you and that is another way of doing it.....

Helen Try here they sell it.

Na problem darling. If ya get talking to em find out how much per liter it is for us will ya. Also if ya buying it from them check and see if they pay the tax on it for you. If so which is more than likely. Also every time ya fill up get a recipt so if ya get dipped you have the proof. This way you dont have to register that you are running on it and its all legal.

Looking around, there are not many places selling this stuff - can you recommend a good place that will deliver?

We now need some BIO Fuel stickers

Well I cant help you as to where you can get it from mate down your way. All I can tell ya is to check the Internet and see where. Have you looked at the last link I put up ? http://www.biodieselfillingstations.co.uk/

People also ask Why use BioDiesel

Biodiesel has superior lubrication capabilities and increases engine life.

When burnt, biodiesel emits the same amount of CO2 as the plants absorb in growth. (Closed CO2 cycle).

Biodiesel is produced from renewable materials.

Biodiesel contains practically no sulfur. (0.001%)

Biodiesel considerably decreases soot emissions. (Up to 50%)

Biodiesel contains no benzole or other carcinogenic polyaromatic components.

Biodiesel easily decomposes biologically and in the case of an accident no harm is done to the soil or ground water.

Biodiesel is considered non-hazardous (flashpoint above 110°C).

Biodiesel is an ecologically beneficial alternative to conventional diesel fuel.

I wish I could find a decent bio-diesel outlet down 'ere.  there are a few places who sell 5% but thats about it.

I've gone down the veg oil route, am currently running on 10% veg oil and will be working my way upto 50% over the next few months.

All registered with the Revenue boys now too.  It would be considerably less of a pain in the ass to get biodiesel from someone else with tax already paid.

All looks very interesting, BUT!!!

I am of the understanding that TAX is paid as a percentage of the cost of an item. IE, if I earn 3 grand a month I pay lots of tax, if I earn 500 quid a month I pay very little.
Or for example, I pay VAT on an item, I obviously pay more for an expensive item by comparison to a cheap item.

If I get free oil from the local chippy(free/gratis/no cost) Then how can I be expected to pay a tax? If its calculated as a percentage, then any percent of   '0'   is nowt!

How can this tax on recycled veg oil be legal?

Rollazuki :?:
Go on....cut me in half........it says SUZUKI all the way thru the middle!!

Alot of the places which supply it in bulk dont use recycled veg oil but rapeseed oil. Mine does so its very pure. 88p a liter I pay for mine and its well worth it. My MPG has shot up big time and the TAX is paid for me so if I was VAT registered then it be even better. Not sure what the VAT is on it but I think if you make it yourself you have to pay them 27p per liter so if my fuel place is paying 27p VAT that would mean 61p a liter which is alot cheeper than 98p for normal Diesel. I am not entirely sure what you are trying to say but thats just me being thick......he he

Apparently rapeseed oil makes the best bio-diesel. But mine is made from waste oil (WVO), i get better MPG from running straight bio diesel and didnt have to modify the fuel system at all, my engine runs a little hotter but thats normal apparently. The Tax on the biodiesel i buy is 25p a litre

I run it in a 200ti 90. Apparently you cant run common rail diesels (i.e TD5) on it!

Although the performance stats for biodiesel are no different for normal diesel, im sure my landy goes better on it!

Yes mine defo runs better and is alot better MPG. I also think its smoother the engine. It took a while to clean the system but now its top. Anybody tell me who runs a td5 on it. I have a mate who is running a commonrail diesel on it. So maybe its just some different types of motors which dont run on it.

The big question is. Does he pay the tax for you or are ya just getting it tax free. If ya getting it tax free then if ya get pulled you will be done just like you was running red diesel. Always get a recipt.

MINIMAN you missed one off your list

When the diesel engine was first developed the original concept was a non petrochemical engine (I may be wrong but the design brief was from Hitler at the start of one of the WW's) and the result was the diesel engine that ran on veggie oil.

The engine has been re-designed over the years to run on heavy oil with input from certain compainies
