On Road toy - What to buy ??

I'm looking to buy an on road toy (must be a middle age thing  :( ) Probably only cover a couple of thousand miles a year so really got to be a V8 or even V12 :twisted:
Still keeping Disco for off road toy :D  :D  :D

 and diesel Vectra for shopping, school etc.

Budget up to around 10k but would prefer less.

Any ideas??

Go take one for a drive, it'll take ages for the grin to go away. Or if you want the comfort A8 W12, nice big comfortable saloon car with the ability to pin you to the seat and make you go OOOOoooooosssshhhh......

A3 3.2 Quattro supercedes the S3 and A8 W12 supercedes the S8 I dont think theres an S4 anymore, just the RS 4

It's not on your list but you need a proper on road toy, get a suzuki gsx-r 1000 :D   For 10K you could get two!

I did a direct access to get my license. Five full days spread over two weeks with a test on the last day. There is no excuse! :twisted:

The Elise/Exige is an -awesome- car performance wise, and -very- little to touch it for the money, but you really should do a long-term (ie. weekend) test drive in one as the seats can be VERY uncomfortable (there's little padding and virtually no adjustment) so you might end up dreading getting into the thing!

And don't get a yank - they're almost universally rubbish-handling cars (and I'm not saying that just because I'm Canadian!).

I'll econd that. A mate has an 01 Pontiac Firebird WS6 and I've pulled him out of fields before now, when clarkson was drooling over the GTO and making the remarks about it beign the first high powered US car to do corners, he wasnt kidding :)

I know where £10.5k will get you a very, make that disgustingly quick, red TVR.  Many toys, 430HC V8 lump with tuned headers, hot cam, head work, Mustang box, LSD etc. etc.

TVRs also have the Land Rover added bonus of always having something that needs work on them :D

Build quality is absolutely dire on them, regardless of age. Will be interesting to see if the new Russian owner really does improve quality like he says he's trying to.


Edit - actually I'm just thinking I reckon strangely enough I'd get a fastback (original) Mustang. Suppose it depends what you're buying the thing for... alternatively as mentioned above, if you're looking for a racer/gokart, a Westfield would rock for reasonable money.

test drive a proper merc !
The SLs use the old 5 speed .
The rest of th range now has a 7 speed auto.
Fully tiptronic on the stick or padels.
Drove a 320 CDI  the other day and made the SL350 look daft !
Bad roof design and no rear seats !!
I tested a 270 and 320 salloon (both 3.0 )
And the ML 320.
They are very nice but want to be at 70K
For what you want/budget the porsche is a good bet although servicing costs are cheeky.

I have been looking down that line myself.

I settled on a Jaguar XJR....The straight six Supercharged model.
The V8 is too unreliable.
You can mess around with these models without affecting relability.
Change pully`s on the Supercharger etc. :D

You can find good, low mileage, service history examples for between 5-7k.
Insurance is classic, quote for me was £260 ish.
They will do 30mpg on a run with a light foot!

I havn`t purchased one yet :roll: ........I can`t seem to justify 3 bikes and 3 cars......Just yet.

Worth a drive though.....They are like silk on a normal road, with a kick in the pants.....They also look so unassuming to other road users.

I also looked at the Porsche 928.
Late models 92-94.
Approx 400 BHP, trying to tie down a definate figure is a nightmare with all the macho sh1te that surrounds these things.

I concluded that they were too much money for bang per buck, but they do sound sweet and one of the few motors that actually do make the ground vibrate when on tickover :D

Later Corvettes with suspension easily modified.....V8 again...Mmmm.

No, the Jag does have it for me......Unassuming, non-flash.

Go and drive lot`s of the things, get yer list worked out first though.....Lists only work for the head and it is your heart that buys these things :!:
