Patriot Roof Rack

I've been offered a full length Patriot roof rack for my Disco.  It's been powder coated, and is in almost new condition.  It's the one without the cradle on the front.

I think it's this one


£275.

Couple of things - anyone know how much these are new?  Also - anyone else got one/have experience of them?

I have one.  About £900 new.  Mine is the 2.4m (this might be slightly bigger than yours as Disco II roof is a bit longer), but mine has the rail all the way around.

It's a total bargain at £275.  They're absolutely fantastic roof racks, but be aware that because they're bolted instead of welded, they do have a tendency to creak a bit sometimes.

Mine did bend slightly at one point, because it has extra-high legs to clear the sunroof and to accommodate a drop-down ladder underneath the load bed.  But Patriot sorted it out and strengthened the uprights with braces.  I don't think this has ever happened to anybody else.

Patriot do all sorts of accessories such as hi-lift mounts, jerry can holders, lockable boxes etc.

This has come at the wrong time really as I'm about to put new springs/shocks on, and I am ordering my winch bumper too (Devon Vs Scorpion Vs Paidia!) - but at this price, I cannot turn it down.

The only things I can think of are the usual - is the powder coating in good nick, and is it all straight & true.

Depending on who you're buying it from, if it happens to be a bloke down the pub then you might want to ring Patriot before you buy to check whether any have been stolen recently!  They hear very soon if any go missing, and it would be a shame to fork out the money then have the nice policeman take it back from you.

(Out of interest, they do anti-theft nuts with a special tool to remove them - not cheap, but cheaper than a replacement roof rack.)

If I didn't already have one, I'd be nagging you to sell me that one.

I got mine a few years ago from Billing for £300 but that was just the bare rack (without any sides to it) and it cost another £120 to get the kit.

As David says, very good racks, all the fittings are stainless and the main thing to watch for is when fitting it.
Put loads of WD40 on the threads of the gutted mounts before you put the nuts on as they tend to pickup a thread in lock solid!! Remember o do the same thing if you have to take the rack off as well.  

I've fitted a Hi-Lift 4XRAC at the rear and it fits nice with plenty of room for the jack (see photo). I also keep the waffles up there, just get some long stainless bolts, bolted them upright through the rack and then just used large washers to hold the waffles down.  :D  
I've also mounted the roof lights under the rack as it allows extra protection from trees and you can set them back enough so you don't get any reflection off the windscreen.

The owner is in France right now, and is back in about 3 weeks.  Had a chat and confirmed I'm having it, so just waiting for him to call me when he gets back.  Numbers/Names etc. swapped.

GOT IT!

Travelled all the way down to Paignton to pick it up.  It's the same as the one in the pic above (the shiney DII one).

Went to take a photo, and memory card was full  :roll:  - so I will do some tomorrow.  

Overall condition is fantastic, only 2 scratches on it, both of which are under 2" and can be painted out.  
I just need to speak to Patriot now about some spot light mounts, and some security fittings.  Also want them to make me a secured flat platform I can slide on to rest a bipod on from the rifle.  Instant mobile high-seat.  :twisted:

Very pleased indeed.  Ã‚£250 cash in the end too.

A mate of mine has a brand new Patriot roof rack and ladder fitted to his S2 disco.
Patriot even made him a light bar so he does'nt have to have the roof rack fitted all the time.
I'll get some pictures next time i'm with him.

Any pics of the feet?
I am trying to make a Brownchurch 90 rack fit my Disco, I can alter the widthof the feet but the fixings are missing so I will have to make some, but could do with a pic and sizes if poss
