I've posted before about my 110 having heavy duty suspension - which simply appears to be twin springs on each side at the rear, the 'helper' spring being smaller diameter, and sitting inside the main spring. As the truck is ex-leccy board, it was designed to carry a fair amount of weight both in the back, and on the roof - hence the HD suspension setup.

After some 'testing' this weekend on some privste land, it appears that the springs are now far too hard for the unladen vehicle - if I get one wheel significantly higher than the others, the body leans to an alarming angle rather than the spring compressing and keeping the body reasonably level. I don't intend carrying anywhere near the payload that a HD can take, so I'm looking at changing the rear springs for something a little softer, and I guess also removing the helper springs.

But........what springs do I go for ?

I'd also consider going for a bit of a lift, but I'm not sure what the standard (if there is a standard ?) height of a 110 is, as I don't want the truck to be too 'top heavy'.

Any advice, gratefully received.

Go for the OME middle strengh springs. I have them on mine and they are great. I will see if I can still read the number on mine for you later.

But have a look at this.

Have you tried just removing the helper springs to see what it's like?
That maybe all you need to do for now.  :wink:

Is it as easy as peeps make it out to be ? - jack everything up, remove the wheel, compress the spring(s), remove the springs, replace the springs.......?

How do I compress the main (outer) spring and helper (inner) at the same time ? :?

Chock the wheels.
Jack one side with the jack under the axle.
Place axle stands under the chassis once the wheel is well off the ground.
Remove the wheel.
Release the top of the shocker from its mounting.
Slowly drop the jack, making sure the axle stands take the weight and drop that side of the axle as far as it will go. You should find that the springs will dislocate from the top and you can pull the helper spring out.

I'm not sure if the helper spring is secured at the axle end like the main spring is so you may have to remove the securing plate before it will come out. Do this before you drop the axle.

Once the helper spring is out, relocate the main spring and jack the axle up again and refit the road wheel.  :wink:

Ahhh, quite straightforward and no need for spring compressing tools - might have a go at this and see what difference there is without the helper springs.

You ought to see what the main springs are and then see what the standard 110 springs are. I'd say try and get it to a standard set up and then move on from there.

Genuine LR springs are usually pretty cheap and are designed to work well. You will also have a choice with different ratings.
