which type of map would i be best getting which can help me find some routes to go cycling?

explorer or landranger?

1:25000, imho.

The routes are not only more obvious simply because they are bigger, but the 1:25000 has more terrain features on it to help you navigate them.

For my tuppence worth, people buy an OS map because they want a detailed map.
So they should probably buy the more detailed one.

Personally I prefere 1:50000, there is plenty of detail unless you want/need every hedge marked on the map and they cover far more area for your money.

Not the world's best website unless they've sorted it out since I last visited, but http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ have details of cycle routes all over the country and also produce some excellent maps to go with the more popular ones.

ive just ordered both maps which cover the areas i cycle for a fiver each new off ebay :)

i already have a landranger and its covered in green laning marks!
