I am looking for a light bar for my range rover classic (84)

I have seen some lame looking ones based on a roof rail but wanted something which looks better and more robust.

Does anyone have any suggestions where one can be bought from or if anyone has made them in the past some pics of them so that i could copy the design?

Finally spoke to kev yesterday, he was enjoying a holiday in Florida and had just got back.

Sent him my cheque last week, so hopefully he has it now he's back :D He did say he had back orders from LRO Peterborough to take him well into October, so it may take a while for it to arrive.

I ordered some little 3.25" diameter Wipac lights (2 pairs) but they sent me 4 pairs....... should I fit 4 on top and 4 underneath??? :twisted: Along with the main beam and 2 lamps on the A bar it would total nearly 700 Watts :shock: I suspect the engine would stall when they were switched on :lol:

A question to anyone who has one of these light bars fitted,

Is there any reflection / glare when using the lights..?

Can you see better or does it light the bonnet and screen
up so much you carn't see where your going....?

Ed's the one who suffered worse with this, One cure would be a sun shield type effort on the bottom of the light to cut down the glare

When I was out in Ed's on the Friday night he didn't get any glare
when the roof light were on because they are on the roofrack and
sit a fair way back. :?

As the light bars have the lights in front of the screen there must be
glare from them when there on, They must also light the cab area up.? :-k

Yes it could cause a problem, I suppose the type of light fitted will make a difference, the more directional the beam, the less light splash, or maybe a visor above the windscreen?

When I started looking at lights on the roof I came across a guy that had what looked like just what I wanted.
I went up to him, as you do, and we got talking. He was on a mega downer that he'd spent all that money and then couldn't see what he was doing at night.
There's two things to take into account.
How far forward of the windscreen they sit and
Whether or not the lamps leak light out of the bottom of the lamp. By this I mean that some lights have only glass surrounds and leak whereas others have a metal surround and they only send the light forward.
I've got Cibie Tangos on the roof which sit well back. Not far enough to light up the sunroof though :)

if it is the light bar that bolts to the gutter
then if the lights are below the bar then there is a lot of light in the cab but if you set them to top of bar then there is virtually none at all to mention of

Finally got the light bar on Saturday.

It looks very good, Full marks to Kev

(puts my welding to shame)

have fitted it to the Classic, easy fit (2 bolts per side)

and mounted a couple of lights (so far) to the top of the light bar

Will check out the reflection in the dark so see how much i get.

Wouldn't mind a light bar myself but there are other more pressing matters to attend to.
Got the lights already, set of 4 JCB style worklamps, the patterns suite the high mounting point, they hang under the rim of the roof) and have a semi-circular beam. Obviously these are near-feild lamps not driving lamps, but then I already have the maximum legal no. of lamps for on-road driving.
Anyhow, did someone say how much these cost already?
