Simple question. Will an R380 gearbox and attacjed transfer box from a 90 fit a Discovery as a more or less straight swap?

Thanks

Mike

if it's anything like the LT77 the bell housing will be different along with the selector mechanism on top of the gearbox....

Thanks Mike it's just that there sometimes R380 boxes + transfer boxes on eBay and I'd like to know I can bid with some confidence of fitting them!

I'm sure I've read somewhere that the selector position was on a different place on the 90 box compared to the disco.
Isn't the gearstick located further back on the Disco box?  :-k

I could be wrong though!  :wink:

Doesn't the 90 transfer box use a different ratio to the discovery one ? Seem to remember driving a disco that had a defender transfer box, it did about 65 mph tops !

Worth checking out !

different gear ratio and im not 100% but i dont think the 2 are interchangeable, without mods, im sure the disco box is longer.

Pete;

yes thats true,a disco uses a higher T box ratio of 1.22 in high but in lowbox they are the same,very doubt a disco doing 65 flat out as at the moment i have my 90 on 205's (disco size  :wink: ) running a defedner tbox (1.410 ratio) & does 70mph,BUT what you are saying is true.

Guardian,that was the case on the 90/110 range that used the LT77 box,the disco LT77 has a longer bellhousing to put the engine forward where as the 300tdi defender & disco the engine is forward on both models & the gearbox has the same long bellhousing,,the only difference to the 2 boxes which i got mixed up on is the levers are the other way round on a disco,BUT the box itself length wise etc is the same

I have a 300Tdi in my defender project with a Disco R380.  The engine is in the correct position and when it came to the gear remote I needed to cut out a section of the seat box.  The seat box and tunnel I bought from a breaker and were also from a 300 Tdi defender.

I wish this project would just hurry up and finish!

But I don't think it will if I keep making simple mistakes
