Recalls - Please check!
« on: September 25, 2006, 11:36:33 »
Not specifically for our beloved marques, but I just took the Laguna II back
to the main dealer for a replacement tyre pressure sensor and a couple of
tyres on the back given they are now 5 years old. The chap punched in the
chassis number as we have a cherrished number on it and when he did it came
up with two recalls on the vehicle for two faults which were identified as
needing sorting pronto as in before it hits the road again.

Normally I steer way clear of main dealers though I'm glad I took it now, we
were the 5th owner and the car is only 5 years old. Clearly my view of the
dealership I bought it from has just gone through the floor as the one of
the recalls is 3 years old apparently. I'd imagine that the previous keepers
would have been notified but did [!Expletive Deleted!] all about it.

I've done a quick google as you do being cynical (though they aren't
charging for the work!) and come up with this site which may be worth peeps
taking time out to check if you have a second hand motor.

http://www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/recalls/index.jsp>

My recalls are for "The engine may intermittently accelerate
by itself and/or suffer instability of the idle speed" and "Brake servo may
fail resulting in a "hard" brake pedal due to the loss of power assistance."
. How [!Expletive Deleted!] would I have been if either had happened to Mrs D and the Kids,
or worse both at the same time. A mate at work has the same year and model
Laguna and has just had the accelerates by it's self issue, neither of us
were aware of the recall and he had just recently bought his second hand. It
wasn't just accelerating the throttle went to fully open with [!Expletive Deleted!] all the
driver could do about it.

Scary!

Having worked in main dealers for about 15 years, I can promise ya, theres plenty of recalls for all models that never get done.
VOSA score the manufacturer on the percentage of recalls carried out, and Ive known there to be more than 1 wave of recalls in an attempt to get em all done.
Id guess most vehicles on the road are probably due a recall for something or other.
Go on....cut me in half........it says SUZUKI all the way thru the middle!!

There are a number of them for the Mark 2 Pajero, including one fairly serious one. Wonder if its possible to collect a list of the ones that apply to the veichles we own on this site, only biggies mind. I think the Paj one is that the end of the steering arm may randomly drop off in certain conditions.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

I'm not about to tempt fate but so far I can't see why the other owners passed it on. It's spotless inside and out and only done 37,000 miles.

Then again maybe they have sorted all the teething troubles.    I've put a caliper on, two tyres (two rear ones were perished on the area where the tread meets the side wall) and the tyre pressure sensor which prompted the visit to the main dealers. I've spent much more on the 101 and Disco in the last year.

The tyres were all the same brand Michelins so I guess they were the factory fit. I've replaced the rear ones with two of the same and will do the front two next month, I've no motorway trips planned in the immediate future but will get them done regardless of tread given the state the rears were in. Caravan associations recommend tyre changes every 5 years and I'm happy to apply the same to my car given it's the difference between life and death of my family.
