After much experimentation i have now removed my anti roll bars.
After lifting the car i had to put spacers on them because one flipped over.
That worked and i was happy.
But i managed to flip another one again at Abingdon so off they came.
So far it feels no different to drive.
Pictures...
What it should look like, the flipped one, ther rear bar on the floor and how it looks now
How typical though.
I spotted the flipped bar and grabbed the spanners...next thing you know, its lashing down.
I was under the car so i did'nt get too wet

A bit of rain was'nt gonna stop me (although i did get a bit worried when the thunder and lightning started)

Jake, someone mentioned a few weeks ago that the D44 cones need some alterations to make them fit. Not libel, just maybe a bad memory :-) No offence mean't to D44.

yeah you do need to modify them a bit - use a round file to make the hole in the top plate into a slot otherwise you wont be able to fit the bolt in to bolt the two bits of the cone together. Or you can cut away some of the lip of the bodywork - I did a bit of both...

Very hard to explain but you will see what I mean when you try and fit them! :D

This topic has been done several times before. If you remove the anti-roll bars then it will NOT fail the mot. If the anti-roll bars are fitted then they will be tested by the mot and subsequently pass or fail.

I've ordered from Devon 4x4 the rear relocation cones, heavy duty spring retainers, Heavy duty front turrets and heavy duty front turret ings with relocation cones built in.
I'm collecting them on Sunday with a new rad (thanks again Tim, your looking after me very well at the mo

Thats quite a few new toys to fit on plus the other bits sitting in my shed.
I have some QT front castor correcting radius arms sitting here which require some Polybushes and fitting.
Also a solid (not tube type) V8 front prop, which i'm told will work just fine with my 2" lift and castor corrected radius arms.
Let the fitting comence

That is incorrect, if they know the vehicle should have an anti-roll bar, they can fail it.

I still disagree though, how does and MOT tester know if they were fitted as standard??

My 90 has all the brackets, yet has never been fitted with an anti roll bar (front or rear) they where always an option.

If you had HD suspension fitted to a Discovery 300Tdi the the dealer was supposed to remove the rear anti roll bar.. so would this then fail??

On 200Tdi Discovery's they were optional extra (part of the Freestyle pack) - so even Land Rover wouldn't know if they were fitted (dealer fitted option)

That's just my opinion...

And my 90 has never failed an MOT yet for having the standard brackets, but no anti roll bars.

I'm not disputing the fact removing an anti-roll bar may not cause it to fail (my rear one is MIA, front soon to be). :twisted:

People are stating it's NOT a failure, when it actually could be.

If an MOT tester spots it and fails it, and you HAVE removed it, he is within his rights to fail it. The rules are black & white (it's the grey areas we want to play with). :D :twisted:

If people start taking them off without the proper information, they'll be a bit miffed if they've thrown their ARB away when they could have popped it in the shed just in case.

if the vehicle was factory fitted with anti roll bars then it should!!! fail an mot without them, however, they often dont. this again is a depends on the tester situation as some will turn a blind eye or dont realise it had them fitted from factory.

Taken in context, I doubt a 300 tdi Discovery would fail the MOT if Jake removes anti-roll bars. I'm not an MOT tester but the man who lives 4 doors down from me is and whether written in black and white or not it's up to the tester to decide, <from the horses mouth> based on the fact there's no fixed rule as to what was factory fitted or standard in the case of a 300tdi Disco. Different for D2 Discos !!

I apologise if I made a sweeping statement with "NOT" fail but I was referring to the original post and the comments subsequently made.

Just to throw wood on the fire... when I had mine in for MOT in May at a 4x4/Land Rover independent garage the tester asked me why I hadn't taken the anti roll bar off :!: :lol:

The other thing to remember with MOTs nowadays, it that its all computerised and testers have become more strict - now they insist on at least seeing the vehicle !!! :roll:

Jake it is interesting to learn that you have not experienced any changes whilst driving having removed the anti- roll bars.

I removed mine on a td5 90 back in March of this year and have had no problems.

I have also recently MOT'd my 90 which passed with no anti- roll bars fitted.

can't really see the point of the things??????

hi every body i have just put bigger springs/shocks on. i was thinking of removing anti roll bars but not sure what the crack is . do i take front and back off or just back,? do i get heavy duty ones ?are they needed if not why are they put on in first place? my better half had a fit when i said i was taking ANTI ROLL BARS OFF!!! thinking we would be on the roof on the first corner, women!!! any info about this subject welcome thanks glyn.
