Disco's keep on amazing me
« on: October 02, 2006, 15:39:30 »
I was down in Swindon doing voluntary work and we had to take water, tools etc to the site which is down a track that at the beginning of the week was in good condition. Good enough to reverse alarge box trailer down anyway for about a mile. After the rain we had it was decided only my disco and someone elses large twin rear wheel ldv ex postie van was to go up and down the track.

Day 1 the ldv got out but the other 3 times I had to tow her out and the track was extremely boggy. I wasnt sure I was going to manage it as I only had my road tyres on that arent at's and have a few mill of tread on more than the legal limit. I hooked my tow rope on and engaged diff lock low ratio and slow pulled forward waiting for thetow rope to become tight and next thing I know I was towing her out with ease. We were both amazed and my mate in my passenger seat was amazed too.

Same thing happened the next day but it was alot boggier.

esterday came with a hail storm and torential rain during the day. We found it extremely hard to stand up and walk. First of all I rescued the van and admitedly I was wheel spinning a bit up the slight hill but then came the big box trailer to get out. I got my mate in his disco to come down the track and drive infront of me incase Igot stuck he could tow me.  No need for a tow. I was at one point slowing down to nearly a total halt but the disco just kept on slowly inching forward. All of us were amazed.

Seeing a twin axle trailer sliding back and forth in the wide ruts on the mud was hairy but I think in a way it helped as it pulled the back of the disco to the side and got more grip where I may not have got it before.

So on road tyres where I was sure it wouldn't have got the trailer out and was going to require another disco and a tirfor it just came straight out.  I also think having the auto box helped as towing the van out when I started to wheel spin I popped it into a higher gear and we were away again.

also towing the 2 ish tonne trailer home having the EGR disconected I have so much more power from 50mph onwards. I just cruised up the motorway. It was a joy to tow with and I take back all my bad comments I ever said about auto boxes are useless for towing!!!! Please forgive me big green giant

Pictures of the site to follow shortly of how muddy it really was. Hopefully a mate will let me borrow a few photos.

Yep they amaze me too - the refecting ball on the roof, the lights the array of strangly dressed people .... erm wrong disco? (I'll get my coat again)

But I did get to take the works disco out today for a 120 mile round trip so I'm almost back on topic!
Way back then - life crawled out of the mud, then it decided life was better and crawled back in!

*If you only knew the power of the dark side*
