:) :) I own a 2 year old Vitara 1600 and am presently suffering from the engine cutting out at various times...apart from being frustrating it is also dangerous as I loose the steering and brakes and there's always the risk of being shunted from behind...I've had it back to the main agents a couple of times but they tell me that they are unable to diagnose the fault...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...apart from that it's a superb vehicle....thanks in advance...

Wait for me,I might be stuck...I haven't a clue where we are or what we're doing...

I'm not trying to be funny here - I'd try another main dealer.
It's 2 years old and this is just not acceptable. Let the new dealer have it for a week to give time for the fault to apear etc.
If this fails contact Suzuki GB customer services and complain about the dealer.
The problem you are getting points to the ECU - get it swapped under warranty.

:D :D Thanks for that fellas,I too have heard somewhere that this is a common fault...the problem I have is that my next nearest main dealer is miles away...I've got the car booked in for next Monday morning and I've told them that I don't want it back until the fault is rectified...just for my info what does the ECU actually do,sorry for my ignorance...
Regards and thanks

ECU manages the running of the engine. The air/fuel mixture etc.
Together with other things like; sensing wheel speed, applying brakes, traction control, managing the abs etc etc
It's basically the "brain" of the modern car :)
