My free trial perod has run out with my current anti virus programe, bulldog, and tbh not all that impressed. what Anti viurs programes are you running, and what do you recommend? I have Norton before, and that was dog poo.

If its free even better Wink

its free it does regular updates if you choose to & I've had no problems whereas I had loads with Norton :wink:

i use mcafee, but the enterprise version, not the home one.

AVG is free, and is aparently very good but i've never used it.

AVG is excellent, and reasonably priced.  I know a lot of people who use it.  Some of the big-name stuff is trash (as in, the commercial agreement you sign is a joke, and the software itself is almost virus-like in its tenacity if you try to remove it.)

When it comes to protection, the so called freebies out there do an okay job, but not 100%.  Yes it's £23 a year, but it works.  Beats the likes of Norton and McAfee into the ground. :wink:

My vote goes to AVG (free version). I've been using it for 12 months and has been excellent. I've used many different (and expensive) AV products over the years and Grisoft are as good as any, much better than most ...and you can't get cheaper  :D

You won't have any problems Chris (if it's been installed and administered correctly of course!) - I've implemented it in a number of clients over the last 2 years, and their virus problems have dropped to zero.  Total users for all clients is around 1100.

AVG did not do as well as expected in our tests (free & paid version).  We infected a machine with a number of known common, and no-so-common viruses, and tested the effectiveness and speed of each AV package to clean things back up to normal.  Only NOD32 and Norton were 100% effective, with Norton being much slower, and having a big impact on client speed.

We use AVG.

Norton virtually destroyed the performance of our machine.  AVG is very userfriendly.

avg & sygate firewall - both have free versions.

I spent about 6hrs this weekend repairing a friends pc that had been left unusable with a norton upgrade.
