We did alright for quite a while as most pumps could only go to 99.9p, but ALL new pumps will now be ready for that extra digit  :roll:

Personally I wouldn't touch supermarket fvuel with a barge pole - cheap rubbish that will f... up your engine.

at nearly £10 a litre I would go somwhere else too!!!

I never used to buy supermarket fuel either as I found I got less mpg but they seem to have improved over the years and stopped putting cleaning agents in etc. I didn't like buying 2/3rds fuel and 1/3rd cleaner. I want 100% fuel!!!!!!

Hi

I buy my fuel from Shell, BP, Esso etc.

All fuel is supplied from similiar/same place, but the Branded fuel have their own additives packages and the supermarkets use the cheapest sh.t they can buy. This has very little added if anything at all - now take into consideration that we have to use low sulphur fuel which means you are getting zero lubrication in the fuel, hence why so many fuel pumps pack up these days, also with no or less additive packages there are contamination risks, corrossion etc, etc.

I work in the lubricants/additives industry and if you tested the fuel you would be amazed by how diferent they are.
The supermarket and all other use additives/cleaners but it is a few percent, not 1/3rd or anything like it.

As I said I would not use supermarket or cheap fuel in my own vehicle - EVER.

i use sainsburys (nectar points) or Shell (100yrds from home) but try to (when i remember) use a fuel additive like millers or redex....
i tend to use sainsburys as its generally the cheapest around.

Just to add that i worked in a petrol station on a MIS computer and got talking to the manager and apparently they have to check the WATER content and i believe from what i was told that fuel is still saleable and useable at above 8% though most keep it below 4%.

Not that it ends there, because other factors too of such as additives and bad pump calibration, and going 1p over everytime i fill up.

The way that fuel gets sold by the tanker load between companies menas you have no guarantees whatsoever that the fule you are buying is the brand on the pump.

I used to get mine from the local Morrsions, but it has caused blocks in the fuel line. I now go to the nearest Esso.

most of the fuel comes from the same refinery - used to work at a supermarket , same fuel, different tankers.

Recently filled the tank up at a Tescos in Somerset.  Ever since, the exhaust smells distictly different, stronger.

Consumption appears similar, water and oil levels fine, temperature guage steady.

Will be interested to see if it changes the next time we fill up.

I went out of my way the other week to fill up on BP.
I know I used the Diesel pump I was watched.  The price on the receipt was the Diesel price etc.

But the 110 ran like a bag of spanners.  Ã‚£20 worth of Tesco's finest later and it's back to normal.  Wont be making that detour again.

I run on morrisons or tesco's as they are the cheapest and close by. But up country when i'm off to a show i always stop at cribbs causway to top up and i go to the shell garage and i'm sure after that she runs better and seems to do better on the M way.

wouldent buy my fuel from tescos not that its any good just cos i think tescos have got to much of a monopoly on our lives in this country.

 they made 1.5bn profit and there are no proper butchers left in towns no milk men no proper fruit and veg shops left
 its companys like them that have taken the greatnees  of great britain out from this country

 they treat there staff like dirt.. treat the people and companies that supply to them like dirt ..
they use majority of forieng workers at there rdc sites now which is now having an effect on wages in this area

i would not give tescos the steam of my pxxx
its about time that the goverment stops them now but we know that it aint gonna happen while all you happy shoppers keep linning there pockets with your hard earned cash.
they own 250 houses from 275 that were built in an area close to me and filled them with polish workers working for peanuts and paying high rent on the houses.
all supermarkets are guilty but  tescos are the worst and most corupt in doin this
you bet i hate tescos and every think they stand for

The additives only really make a difference on modern higher performance engines. Older, inherently less efficient, designs are more tolerant of fuel variations. That's why old Mercs are so favoured in Africa where the fuel is.... err...... variable!

If you are running a high mileage engine, the last thing you want is a detergent washing out all the deposits. It will start leaking straight away!

From what I've seen it's much more down to the garage and how they look after the tanks and deliveries. At least the supermarkets make sure the managers look after things.

A bigger problem is when the garage is careless withe petrol tankers (or has been in the past). If they put 4* into an unleaded tank that can cost a lot of money for a catalizer.

my thoughts exactly...  ECU controlled, fine injectors, sensetive fuel pumps, variable vain turbos etc wont benefit from been fed any old slush..

compare the fuel in your car and its general use, to the diets of say jonny vegas and a high class athelete.... you would put differant fuel in a TVR to a lawnmower!

having said that my rover runs a lot better on Shell diesel extra, not as well, but gets more miles out of bp premium diesel, and like the landy on a cold morning on supermarket fuels.  :lol:

i know through what evilgoat was telling me a while back when there were signs of blocades again that Tesco use esso fuel... the tesco branded tankers fill the big stores and then the esso branded tankers fill the ickle expresses...


I think thats the right way round... and appolgies for the spelling its not my strong point today along with the typing in general :(

Well then Heres one for you then, i used to work for tesco as HGV 1 Driver, got made redundent when they shiped in half of the Polish work force.. All fuel is ordered and controled from their Brackmills D/C(Northampton) and it comes from where ever they can get it at the Cheepest price, not bothered who, But the main supplier was Esso when i was there.  Not that im bitter and twisted  :twisted:  but Tesco can go to hell, i use as many small Local shops as i can now, and the food tastes much better and its  around the same price.  STUFF THE SUPERMARKETS. :twisted:  :twisted:

:) while doing agency driving for asda etc it drive you nuts how much money they waste i mean 2 lorries leave the same depot within 10 min's of each other with 2 drops half a load to each shop why not send 1 full load to 1 and 1 full load to the other?? :shock:
