Wrong prop uj!
« on: October 08, 2006, 17:10:57 »
Hi,

I need to replace a propshaft uj on the front of my 90. I ordered via mail order, only to find that the wrong part was sent, so i duly returned it to be changed, and they sent out a different part, but still the wrong one!!

What i'm after is a HS160 uj, it measures 27mm cup, and approx 725mm across cups! Please could somebody tell me the part number i need, as i dont want to have the 90 sat for another 2 weeks!

Many thanks

Um, apart from D2s (double cardon) and NAS spec 90s (Saginaw wide yolk) Defenders have had the same UJs since the year dot (same part on the S1!). Sounds like you got a specail one, there.

My advice would be to take the prop to a reputable specialist builder and get them to source the right bit if you're having problems. It probably got an 'oddity' from when the engine was swapped out.

cheers

Right:

Lr 90 4 Cyl To VIN CA = RTC3346
Lr 90 4 Cyl CA to LA   = RTC3458
Lr 90 300TDI/TD5 MA to ZA = RTC3458
Lr 90 TD5 From 1A     = STC4807 (Front) RTC3458 (Rear)
Lr 90 V8 To VIN CA    = RTC3346
Lr 90 V8 CA to ZA      = RTC3458
Lr 90 V8 from 1A       = STC4807 (Front) RTC3458 (Rear)

Well i hope that helps.

Yes I've had this problem. I even tried fitting wrong item before I realised. Daft thing is my 2 90s are same age, but one has a newer rear propshaft on it, which causes a problem. I usually just rob the whole shaft from one then fix the other until I get time to go to Landrover with broken bit in hand, and say give me one of these.
If theres a harder way to do it I`ll find it!!
