I'm trying to put together a bit of a shopping list to get my 98 Disco completed for year end.  I've already fitted HD rear bumper, rock sliders, snorkel, +2" OME lift with HD Britpart (yellow) springs, plus some other lesser mods like EGR block off and silicon hoses etc.

To order this month, I currently have:
  • Full length Patriot Roof Rack (picking up next week)
  • Fuel Tank Guard
  • Allisport Option 3 (with air con) Intercooler upgrade
  • Devon HD Front bumper (non-winch)

Before I close my wallet and call it a day, I'm thinking of adding this order from Devon.

EDIT - may get radius arms from QT Services

Once these 235 BFG AT's are worn out, I'll be putting some bigger MT's with Mach-5 wheels on, but that's not until next year some time.  I may be swayed to order a winch bumper, to allow me to fit a winch in the future, but I'm not convinced I'll use/need it.  Time will tell though.  :roll:

Anything else I'm missing?

I thought that might be the case! I've been talking with Horness about whether to do a bit of cutting and get 235/85s on.

My shopping list is similar to Horness', he's just a quicker shopper  :wink:  :lol:

How much of your rear arches did you take off to fit the bigger boots?

Just the usual Camel cut.
About 4" from the bottom lip and continued the contour upwards to meet the arch.
Easy enough to do too.

Gords runs 335/85R16's with a 1" lift with no problems

Am very tempted, but it seems a bit daft so soon after getting a set of 245/75 BFG ATs.

Did you have to alter your lock stops much for the bigger size?

Tyres are 235/70/16s at the moment, until the BFG AT's wear out.  Then comes the camel cut, and 85's.

Just been reading your list Jake - love the Disco, looks like we're on the same path.  :wink:

I'm not particularly mechanically minded (so excuse the question if I'm missing something obvious!), what's the difference between a "Devon 4x4 cranked rear drop arm" and the "QT services 3 degree castor correction radius arms" ?

Also, is there any advantage using TD5 lights?  Are they any brighter?

"Devon 4x4 cranked rear drop arm" - the clue is in the 'rear' bit  :lol:

The QT castor correction arms (for the front axle) are, from peoples experiences, either required or not dependent on how yours behaves - I haven't had a problem on mine with the lift and tyres but some people experience tram-lining and lack of self centering on the steering.
If you do fit the castor correction arms it brings the diff back into its original (pre-lifted) aspect and as such will munch UJ's on the front prop like there's no tomorrow - that's when you need the cardon jointed front prop off a Td5. The cardon prop really goes hand in hand with the castor correction arms (from what I have read of other peoples experiences).

There's also the modification to the rear axle of fitting an earlier rear prop and coupler to do away with the rubber coupler - http://www.discoweb.org/rotoconversion/index.htm

Thanks Chris.

In my head I thought that one was rear, the other was front, but was not sure.  Better to ask.  :wink:

Since the lift, the steering still centers fine, and other than the harshness of the Britpart springs making the road noise a little louder (applied more volume to music to solve that one!), the ride is the same (only higher).

So with nothing else done after fitting OME shocks, and +2" Britpart springs, am I wasting my money with castor correction radius arms, cranked rear drop arms, and a TD5 prop?

I'm really just trying to finish my Disco before the year is out, and thought I'd be pro-active with some of the stuff, but if I don't need it, I won't spend it.

they are not any brighter.
I just prefere the look of them  :wink:
I'm still trying to work out if i can open the white indicators and paint the inside surround black to match them to the head lights.
I'm a bit scared of breaking them though.
I'll need a dry run with and original colour one to see if the lense is removable without it breaking

My shopping list is still running too though
I still want:-
Detriot diffs, TD5 front prop and a winch with a plasma rope and devon 4x4 stainless fairlead.
I will change the suspension for Old man Emu when the current system dies and i think i can then draw a line under it and begin to start on a 90 or something.
Take plenty of pictures of the work you do and display it here.
We're always interested in seeing vehicles develop  :wink:

The rear cranked radius arms will allow the rear axle to droop further (if used in conjunction with spring re/dis-locators) don't forget you'll probably want bigger bump stops too though.

The cardon prop/castor correction arms are more of a suck it and see item - if you start replacing UJ's on an increasing basis it's probably worth doing, however what will help with this is to make sure you grease your UJ's regularly and properly - don't try doing it first thing in the morning, take it for a spin round the block first so that the existing grease is warmed up and then flows out freely when the new grease is pumped in  :wink:

I got a demountable winch from Dave Bowyer (not used in anger yet though) so I can use it on both ends but don't have to pay the insurance for it 9though I have told them).
