Or for a better power supply for them big feet a V8

If you want it to look even taller may I suggest the sidesteps go ?

Good point- I bet the 2.4L feels a bit underpowered with those massive tyres. Do you know if a low ratio diff has been fitted to help the engine cope?

I'm quite sure lower ratio diff's have been fitted.
A V8 would be great (good power and great sounding) but the people i've asked don't know where i can get the conversion kit from as i have been told they do them. and does anyone know how much work is involved? i'm a mechanic by trade and not afraid to do work myself.
i also thought about putting a 4.2 landcruiser lump in but don't know if engine and gear box will match up.
i can't really lose the side steps cos the girlfriend moans now that she can hardly get in so it would cause more ear ache than good to take them off.  if i could i would, their only mud catcher as it is.

Good luck if you are thinking of the 4.2 lump, you may have the same problem as that encountered with a 3.0 - ie you would also need to install the loom

Once the Surf forum is back try the catch Vatchman, as he has recently done the V8 conversion, alternatively speak to TonyN at http://www.4x4toys.co.uk/ who should be able to help you.
