Cowboy welders - Argh!
« on: October 14, 2006, 11:21:11 »
I'm sitting around, waiting for the time when I have to take the Disco for its MOT (Second time around).

A few weeks ago, it failed on welding.

So, I took it to a back street garage.  Without getting under the vehicle, he told me it would be £180.  Now, I can spot a bargain when I see one, and I can also spot something that's far too good to be true.

So, I took it to see the wonderful Dave Sharp at RDS Engineering.  He got under the vehicle, and started laughing.

"You were quoted £180 for this?" he said, pulling a lump of sill off with his bare hands
"Yup."
"It's going to be more than that."

Two complete new side sills.  A patch on the rear sill.  A patch on a rear wheelarch.  Rebuilt the bottom of the A pillars.

He's been a busy chap.  Ã‚£500 in all.  Not the £180 the cowboy in a back street garage quoted me, but I'm really happy at the quality of the job he's done.

Let's hope the MOT man thinks the same...  :?

So it cost you £500 for the welding work including the cost of the parts as well?
