« on: October 18, 2006, 18:52:11 »
I have just got myself a loverly new alternator to replace my broken one on my 300tdi 90 . the difference is that my new one is 100amp where as the old one was 65a - now the question, will my wiring be ok for the extra amps?

Only one way to find out Dave . . . . . fit it and see.

If there's the smell of burning, then I'd suggest not

Yes mate it will be fine as long as you dont have about 6 spotlights on all at once.

eh...

personally I'd run the power cable straight back to the battery (or the starter)... i.e. replace the thick brown wire (s)

Apart from that the switching wires will be fine.

Although, tis bunfire night soon, so you could just leave it as it is....

Doesn't the 100A just mean it can gernerate 100A max current rather than the 65A one you are replacing ?  The current used by the vehicle should be the same it just means you have another 35A to throw at some other new toys you may choose to fit.

good point, if the draw aint there then it stays the same , is that what you are saying ?- but I do have some power hungry ancillaries to run - like a winch that can draw 400plus.

Thus replace the main feed wire with one that runs straight back to the main terminal on the starter motor - or straight back to the battery - and is of a suitable size!!
