discos first off road...ooopps

was having so much fun getting to grips of what these can do off road in a bit of a old quarry. i was saying to my self just one more go round for about twenty minutes then the shocker went bang so that was the end of that!
i am not blaming the new pro comp shock as when i fitted them there was a top bush missing so i cut old one in half and put either side, but obviously this has caused the top ring to split and snap off. not to worry welded it back on and all is well for now any way.
both front and back anti roll bars are shafted and inverted themselves so they will have to go for recycling at the tip.


P.S.still have a wrap round bull bar for £50.00 if any one wants one.

Don't throw your anti roll bars away, you my need them for the MOT, some testers say you do, some don't care  :roll:

You can fit a spacer to the rear mount that will make it behave a lot better.

Or, depending on where you are (you can add a location if you click on profile at the top), Range Rover Blues is after a anti-roll bar  :wink:

Procomp shocks are having a bit of a mare at the moment, lots of sets breaking just like youres , warranty claim ..........before you welded up ....but Id have probably repaired aswell..check the other side for signs of the same..

mmmm not sure what to do about the arb s at the mo as i have not got relocation cones fitted yet. i am still driving with the bars inverted does not seem to make to much diference, would this cause any long term probs if i continue?
as for the shocks if the other side goes will have to just weld them up, might even take them off and give them a good dose of the welder.... preventitive medicine me thinks!
what is the main benifit to keep arb s  on and how would i stop them from damaging/up ending themselves while off roading?
i notice scorpion do heavy duty ones, is this the reason?

No, heavy duty won't necessarily stop them upending....  The reason they do this is usually cuz the vehicle has been lifted and the "hinges" are much closer to their operating limit.

You can buy spacers to match your ARB to your suspension lift and this will limit the chance of it happening again.

THANKS SKIBUM, SO I AM GUESSING I WOULD NEED TO PUT ABOUT 2 INCH SPACERS IN TO MATCH THE LIFTED SPRINGS , WILL LOOK INTO THIS OPTION . MAYBE TRY AND FABRICATE MY OWN SPACERS AND GO FROM THERE. THANKS ALL GLYN

Spacers are commercially available.... I think... 'course... you're maybe much better and fabrication than I am... Mum's still not forgiven me for the spice rack.... :oops:

Just check that they aren't the ones made from extruded aluminium with the big square hole in the middle, for that sortyou need to include a steel plate too.

Oh and some people prefer to bin he ARB, some prefer to keep it.  You have to decide on your on road/off road balance, if you don't mind leaning on roundabouts then bin it, personally i like the car to go where it's pointed so I have 1 ARB on the front and 2 on the back, I'm too tight to pay £200 for the Scorpion one :shock:

thanks all , i was thinking of just using some two inch box section with the ends blanked would this work and be strong enough?
how do you get two arbs on the back rr blues sounds interesting?
this is my every day car so stability on the road (i suppose) is more important than a small restriction off road.

if its mount skip be VERY careful, i got a section 59 last feb for pulling onto a layby!! (yes i went nuts with the jobsworth CSO that dished it out!) apparently local posh people have complained about mud on the road........ which is totally out of order what with it been in the countryside and that  :roll:

Firstly visit Halfords and buy 2 sets of those (Graystone?) spring clamps they sell for chavs to lower their Coarser without swapping the springs, you'll be making the roads a safer place to start with.  The get a spare ARB and cut the ends off.  Then with your clamps attach the 2nd ARB to the bottom of the 1st, that way you can still disconnect the ends when you need to and swing the ARB back and tie-wrap to the chassis out of the way.
