vibration

Hello to one and all
  Can anyone suggest why on start up i get a lot of vibration,it feels like it is coming from the front prop up through the gear box+tranny(which are working fine).Once in motion vibration reduced to a pulsing/jerky feel noticable when i slow down.
In the last year the front axle has been rebuit,recently the tyres were rebalanced no problems until two weeks ago it is becoming progressively worse.
j reg 200 tdi not modified.

have you checked your engine mountings ?

check your propshaft ujs and balancing.and the tightness of the flange on the transferbox.

Thank you guys, i will check the flange and uj-s today as the vibration occurs as soon as i start her up and seems very localised ie coming up through the gear box and tranny i thing it may be uj-s apart from feeling for too much play what should i be looking for?

If vibration is present whilst stationary, doesn't it exclude props...?   :shock:

Engine & gearbox mountings would be a good palce to start, sometimes they delaminate allowing free movement.

Clutch cover plate thrown a spring?
Crankshaft front pully bolt loose?

Misfire or burned out valve(s).

Talking of delaminated engine mounts, you should see the set I took off the LSE, they had actualy burned away and the engine was held in by gravity.

 I have just been to Asda,there was some vibration , a characteristic
of this problem is that once the engine has warmed up, it is tolerable .First thing in the morning when i start the car up the ,"shake ,rattle +role is scary"
I am burning diesel as well but thats my own fault for experimenting and despite a filter and oil change i cannot remove the smoky exhaust fumes.
We live and learn until its too late!

Sorry matey but I can't add anything that the other guys haven't already. Mounts are a good place to start as I've seen some delaminated ones and the engine was very loose.

Only other thought is a problem I have after my last off road play... the exhaust now rattles against the gearbox cross member at cold tickover. Warmed up it's fine, but that's more of a rattle than a vibration.

Keep us up to date with any diagnosis.... proffesional or otherwise!
