I don't think they are. I am sure that there are different lengths of the input shaft for the LT77S depending on what engine it was mated to originally.

efinately not the same. Im very sorry but i dont know the difference but i know its not a straight swap over , as me mates in the process of finding/replacing his at the moment

LT77 for a 4cyl (inc tdi) has a much shorter input shaft and bell housing than the v8 version. So i'm afraid without an adaptor kit a 4-cyl box cannot be fitted to an 8 cyl vehicle.. Sorry to dash the holiday fund plan. ;)
