Fuel consumption!

Having my TD5 a few months now I noticed a big difference in my runnings costs, if my maths are correct I'm getting less than 20mph around town a bit more on a good run. Anyone know what the figures should be?

Wifey has a 2001 TD5 90 and i reckon it averages about 25 mpg ,  it has clocked up about 40k so far, is yours brand new/very low milage??  as many vehicles have poor mpg readings until they loosen up a tad.
As an example we once owned a brand new ford once (pre green oval days) and once loosened up got an extra 100 miles per tank out of it
TD5 with a few Tweaks ;o)
a bit more fuel friendly than the V8

Phil,

I average anywhere between 21-27 mpg on mine.

Got better when I cleaned the air pressure and temp sensor on the inlet manifold.

I had the engine in my rover 620i re built a few years ago and got 400miles out of the tank and that was running around town. I have never got 400 miles out of a tank again except when i do a very long motorway journey.

Last tank of diesel in my 300tdi auto I got 400 miles out of it. That was about 150 miles of towing a heavy 2 tonne trailer. 100miles on a motorway / dualcarriage way and then other 50 going in and around Nottingham to pick up a pallet for bricks and then reversing 1 mile along a tow path. another 50 was go to and fetch a boot load of bricks and stop start the whole journey. The rest was just the disco with 1-2 people and enough food shopping for 26 people.

I used to get worse mpg when I had the EGR fitted but now it has been disconnected I get better mpg.

Hope this helps.

My 300 TDI does 30 MPG if I drive carfully mixed motorway and around town, had 32+ towing caravan to Dorset
If I thrash it and go abobe 75 it drops to 25
Just fitted new filters so I will see if it makes any difference
Remember it will come in handy even if you never use it

Being used to the 300TDi my my 90 I was getting around 30/32mpg, weather towing, running around town or on a journey, which I thought was very good, especially as running on 35" tyres and all the kit that was fitted to the motor.

Now moving over the the TD5 Discovery with about 90K on the clock (not a new one :( I wish ) and its bog standard no mods and the consumptions seems well crap to what I have been used to.

Thanks for your replys, think I may need to step back to a 300 again!

The 2003 figures are:

Manual Box
Fuel Economy: Urban 24.6
Fuel Economy: Extra Urban 34.4
Fuel Economy: Combined 30.1
Emissions Data (co2 gm/km) 262

Auto Box
Fuel Economy: Urban 22.2
Fuel Economy: Extra Urban 31.4
Fuel Economy: Combined 27.4
Emissions Data (co2 gm/km) 284

I think they are the same for other years as well.
