As the weather turns, thoughts of warmer places...
« on: November 01, 2006, 17:05:40 »
We have been thinking about going to Namibia or similar. I would like to do a self drive with some camping and some nights in lodges. We haven't done anything like this before and I had heard that Namibia is probably the best Southern African country for novices.

Anyone been? Comments/suggestions? Any recommendations for companies to talk to?

Thanks Mike. I won't trouble you at this stage. We are still just contemplating! But I will keep your number if you don't mind. And should we decide we want to persue it further, I'll give you a call.

Don't contemplate too long. Especially if your going to hire a vehicle.

Both Namibia and Botswana are wonderful countries. Both with wonderful people.

The exchange rate is very good at present so a lot more for your money.

The rains will just be starting.Nothing at prsent to really bother you but you'll need waterproofs.Something we never carried.

We hope to go next year.Six months is what we're planning.

Your welcome to ring at any time.

It would be for next year anyway. Or, depending on cost, maybe the year after. We don't get too much time for holidays due to work commitments but we decided we need to plan something. There comes a time when work just has to take a back seat.

Hi

I spent the bst part of 2 and a half years in Southern Africa, and would definately agree that it is a superb country to visit, such varied landscpes to exerience, game, dune, etc, etc.

I know Namibia and Botswana prety well and a friend runs a company that specialises in Namibia and Bots - he worked as a safari guide there for 7-8 year and even wrote the National Safari Guides course and exams - check out his site:

If I can be of any help do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Chris
