painting the Landy

Would anyone have a brief how too on painting the Land rover? I'v bought some grey primer and Nato green paint from ebay, i'v bought satin (I'm assuming this will look fine) Plus i'v also bought an orbital sander so as i can key all the body work and flatten any lumps and bumps. But do i need to use anything else to get a reasonable finish? I dont want to pay out for someone else to do it as the Land rover is only used for a bit of fun and clearing out the rear garden. Thanks for any help in advance.

I would get a spray can of Acid etch primer, you can buy it at a good motor factors, just to prime any areas where you get down to the Ally

i agree with cheggs painted mine last year and used a etch primer for alloy where i had rubbed through the paint work . i only filled   a couple of dents on mine as the rest are just the character of the landy :D .
 i tried a small foam roller but was not happy to just used a decent brush and when it had dried fully like a week or two i rubbed somr of the runs and rough bits with very fine wet and dry with lots of water .
 i am pleased with finish for a old landy that gets used and scratched a bit

I did mine in Satin and its OK. Used a 5 inch gloss foam roller and it goes on a bit like orange peel. I just rubbed down the existing paint and slapped it on top. Finish was not important though as it gets scratched a lot :D
