Trolley jack repair ? ?
« on: November 13, 2006, 19:15:28 »
Howdy all, I have a Blue point/snap on 3 ton trolley jack, which i have owned for a number of years, it has mainly been used at home, so not over worked.

Over a period of time the potential to lift to its highest has not been possible, i feel its a little low on fluid??  but not noticed any leaks that i can speak of. Also it did not "creep" down in use so im guessing the seals are ok ?

So the question is any ideas of any where/one who can check it out, or what fluid could i use to top it up and also how ?? i see there is a "screw bung" in the top of the Ram unit,  I guess i am being over carefull but had a astra jump on me years ago ( different jack) and now VERY cauctious about safety issues,    Many thanks for any assistance

Be careful that isn't the anti-tamper oover the blow off valve.  I got some spares for mine through a hydraulics company.  The jack should be serviceable if it's a Snap on it will be.  Try the yellow pages for a snap on rep.

The oil will be hydraulic jack oil, try Halfrauds.

Very true but doesn a service include testing it's capacity like with a crane?

I took mine to a local hydraulics company and they re-sealed it and tested it for £30.

Don't Snap-On have a lifetime guarantee or is it excluded because it's a Blue Point?

not sure on the guarantee side if things, but spoke to my old dealer (tools of course) and dropping it offf on friday for repair, was quoted approx £35, which seemed ok by me, will ask about the quarantee side if things though, i must admit i have broken some tools in the past and got them immediately swappped over no questions asked,
