3" lift is complete. NOW WITH MUD TYRES!!!!!

well at first i totaly bought way to much stuff for my truck for the lift i intended....  at first i just wanted a 2" lift so i didnt have to worry about castor problems, but instead i bought a 3" lift with castor corretion bushies and correction trailing arms with a new polly bush kit


well after the short wait of 3 days it arravied, in one bloody BIG box, i felt like a little kid at christmas when it came, i ripped it open to recieve all the parts i wanted inlcding a free mug...... well im not complaining lol

it contained

4 bearmach blue springs
4 pro comp shocks 2"+ travel (these are more than 2" i put them next to the old ones)
4 extended brake pipes
2 QT correction trailing arms
castor arm correction bushies
poly bush kit
HD turret rings
and of course my free mug lol

well after 3 days of cutting the old stuff off with a grinder (bloody hell they are put on so well) the new stuff went on so easyily and WOW what a difference, in looks and hight

just thought id show you the difference

oh and the ride is so much softer, got to be more careful in those corners now, and the i can tell the difference in the UJ's aswell..... im hoping they will wear abit and stop vibrating so much, they sound abit worrying at the moment, but only time will tell

The more I look at it, the more it just looks right at that height, like it was meant to be.  Even the wheels look ok on it.

oh yes definatly got that drumming.... it only usualy happens at low speeds on over run......

at higher speeds its more of a hummmmm with the vibration, oh and i dont like trying to get it up past 52MPH so its in over dirve..... it starts vibrating like hell then lol

think i need to make some sort of CV prop shaft to go on it, but in the mean time i better get a set of UJ's for spare just incase

hey it looks even better from the side, took it work today and it looked even higher then it does in that picture, i can even get my head under there easily to check everythings ok lol

the handling is very different, but not in a bad way...... the old suspension was very hard but was great on the roads and aronud courners, but the new stuff is well softer but in a good way, those speed bumps dont bother me anymore, it doesnt roll as much as i thought it wud, if i hit the ramp at work at speed you can barley tell, before it would bang and make u jump... the only problem i can see with it is that if turn to sharp or going over a speed bump, it bounces abit, like the shocks are softer..... but im sure they will be great for off road as i intended it to be....

as for the correction bushies, you cant even tell the differnce.... i even thought there wud have still bin some problems but none at all, it may even be better than it used to!!!!!!

have you checked your uj's they may well have just been warn and the lift is probably just showing that more, thats what happened to mine

The drumming noise isn't likely to be your CV joints, its probably the propshaft.  By doing a 3" lift you've increased the drive angles.  Bad news is the cost of the new prop shaft..... I got mine from Scorpion but there have been numerous posts on here telling where to get them cheaper.  Its a double cardon propshaft you need.  The rear would probably benefit from one with an increased yoke angle if your planning on exploring the new articulation you now have available.

I'm running a solid prop from a V8 disco (thinner diameter) and its good but still has some vibration on over run.
A double cardon prop is on my shopping list too

Right, I'm going to stick my oar in now, it's a Cardan joint, not a double cardan joint, not unless you need one at each end,  A cardan joint looks like a double UJ but has slightly more to it.  It is a type of constant velocity joint.

What are the castor correction bushes like? i have just bought a 2 inch lift for my 90 from the same place well impressed. Have found that the ride is much less bouncy now that its all bedded in.

I have a 2" lift of my Disco 1.  I have the hardest springs you can get on the rear and I have to say the truck handles better than before.  Much more firm and steady.  The original springs must have been well soggy to be able to lift the truck and end up firmer and have less roll when cornering!

Quite harsh under normal conditions but I like the feel of it anyway.  My quandry is wether to fit larger tyres or not.  I have a decent set of Michelin Synchrones so I am in no hurry. Apart from that little bit of extra clearance I can't think of any other benefits...

hey there jim...

the bushies go into the front radias arm to correct the castor of the steering after a lift has been added to the vehicle

as the car goes up, the axles come down, and because the axles are attached to the chassis by two radias arm which dont extend in length, they are pulled closer inwards towards the car which upsets the castor, make the car hard to self correct while turning.....

as you can see in the picture the bushes have the holes offset so it doesnt pull the axle inwards....

because ive got the car copletely covered in mud and i can always get it shiny again....... thats what giving it a good coat of wax is all about every time i go off roading... makes it so much easyer to clean

2" is the pojt at which the debate seems to start.  Depending on how your car was built the tolerance for steering castor is 3 dgrees plus/minus1.  A 2" lift rotates the axle by 3 degrees, so the resultant castor can be 0 plus/minus1 degree.

I like the look of the ES lifted, as for the castor question, ive lifted mine 2" and haven`t really noticed any steering issues, perhaps thats more luck than judgement who knows!! Have herd that fitting shims in the front of the c bar bushies on the chassis end is a quick fix you have self centering problems on the steering, never tryed it my self but sound like it could work :D

well ive just had my new tyres delivered and fitted and what can i say but....

WOW WEEEEEE!!!!!

god im in love with my truck, sorry monster truck now lol


i order 4 greenway machos 265/75 r16 from tyres direct on saturday and he said he would send them out on monday and should recieve them in 3 working days.... so i come back from work on tuesday to find that i cant get in through the front door, after just been able to sqweez past i find the thing stoping me getting in where my new tyres

i felt like i little boy at christmas  :D wow these thing are big!!!! i thought id never be able get them ftted under my arches..... loads bigger than my normal 235/70 r16's plus them been mud tyres the grip makes them bigger

next day i took them down the local tyre garage to get them fitted to the modulars i already had...i had new valves and got them fitted and balanced all for £15... bargan!!!!

i rushed home to get them fitted to my truck to see where i would have to cut the archies away just to be able to get them to fit, but quess what...... i didnt have to....

the only problem i had was it rubbed on the end caps of my front bumper, so i soon took that off :wink: .. well i usualy take it off when i go off roading anyway


i cant belive that the only thing i had to do was take the end caps off... i didnt have to adjust the steering stops as they dont rub anywhere, i didnt have to cut the archies to get them fit... i just cant believe it

BUT!!!!! i do now when i take it off roading it will nock the rear quarter up when the suspension goes up into the wheel arch and maybe nock up the lips on the wheel arch.... but for road use its great and the tyres are very good.... thought they would be crap on the road


well heres some pics for you lot, its dirty at the mo but just tryed to keep it in the same place so you can see the difference betwwen the other pictures
